I fell in love with a lie …
She was beauty and destruction.
Kissing her was a tender song.
Fucking her, a wild poem.
Loving her, my downfall.
But she was mine.
Or so I thought.

I told her I wanted her body
and not her love.
I lied.

One man offered me his love.
The other, the world.
I’m falling, falling, falling …
And there’s no end in sight.

Grace Review

If you read my review of Easy Virtue, than you already know how I feel about Blaire. I’ve be touting the hashtag #TeamBlaireGetYourShitTogether, in reference to the posts about whether people were #TeamRonan or #TeamLawrence. For the men, I know which one I preferred, but also, I didn’t think Blaire deserved either of them. YET. I was very wary going into this book as to whether Blaire could be someone I could cheer for. It may seem strange, but as much as I didn’t care for her in book 1, I was desperate to like her in book 2. I wanted her to get redemption, to become a better person. Someone that deserved a HEA, instead of someone that deserved the empty life they had.

So what’s the verdict? Did I end up liking Blaire? I did, eventually. However, before getting to that, let me rewind and give my overall thoughts on the book.

Is this book hot? Absolutely. This author knows how to write a sex scene. And there are A LOT of sex scenes!

Her kisses were deceit that tasted like the sweetest venom, her laugh a lure to my demise, and her body the damn devil’s playground.

Does this book have angst? HA! Of course it does, given that the characters are breaking each other’s hearts. Over and over. Probably why I read this book in one day. Angst and sleep don’t work together for me.

My heart once weakened by my fucking love for her has finally grown quiet.

What I felt was missing was a deeper level of character development, particularly for Blaire. Here is a woman that has not one, but two men in love with her. But why? It’s obvious that she is stunning and has a gold pussy. One man ruthlessly mentions how she’s only good for sex. OUCH . . . but really, I kind of felt the same way, given the story that was created. There is only ONE scene in this book where Blaire actually works. What does she do all day? Wait for her man to get home/wake up and have sex with her. This book is sex, sex and more sex. Other than the ending, we also get ONE glimpse of Blaire spending time with her man, that didn’t lead to sex. I wanted more. More Coney Island days. I didn’t see the growth from Blaire that I was desperate to get. And because I only got the sexual side of their relationship, I didn’t understand how both men fell in love with her.

“Men don’t fall in love with women like you, Blaire.”  He burns me with his gaze.  “They lose their fucking minds.”

Does Blaire get her shit together? Yes. If you read my review of Easy Virtue, what I asked for did happen (so that may be a spoiler for you). However, in my opinion, if came way too late. I wanted the last 10% to be earlier and expanded. I think it’s great to have a flawed character and then see that person evolve. In this series, we get 2 books full of flaws and only 10% or so of that redemption. It all felt like an afterthought. Too rushed.

Now the big question is, who does Blaire choose, Ronan or Lawrence? And you better know that I can’t answer that. However, it was obvious to me early on who she would end up with. The path isn’t pretty though. It’s actually very ugly. There is a lot of heartache for everyone as Blaire constantly hides her emotions, meanwhile toying with the emotions of others.

Green eyes.  Brown eyes.  Hate.  Lust.  Yearning.  One big clusterfuck of my own doing.

I had my favorite man going in, but that didn’t make it any easier seeing the hurt for the man not chosen.

As one of my most anticipated books this year, I went into this book with high expectations and a desperation for Blaire’s redemption. Although I got the latter wish in the end, I wanted more. More depth. More character evaluation/reflection.

Those looking for a steamy angsty read will get their fill with this book.

He watches me closely. His gaze, sparkling with lust, roves over my figure.

“Like what you see?” I tease.

“Not sure. Why don’t you come a little closer so I can take a better look?”

“Oh yeah?” I get on the bed and crawl toward him, taking my time as I close the space between us. I straddle his lap, rocking my pussy on his cock. “Well, what’s the verdict?”

“Let’s see …” he grabs me by the hips, his long fingers gripping my ass firmly, and pulls me forward until I’m kneeling over his face. I reach for the headboard for support and look down as my breathing accelerates.

“Perfect,” he says, his voice as thick as smoke. Smiling sinfully, his eyes are on me when his fingers spread my folds apart and his thumb begins to rub me in small circles.  “Fucking perfect.”

He plays my body like a damn maestro. I bite down hard on my lower lip the moment he drags his tongue along my soaked pussy. He breathes me in, his hot breath caressing my thighs as his hands move me against his eager mouth.

“And so damn sweet.”
