Book Review: The Virgin by Tiffany Reisz

Title: The Virgin (The White Years #3)
Author: Tiffany Reisz
Genre: Erotic
Length: 416 pages
Rating: 5 stars

The controversial story before the story continues in the critically acclaimed and award-winning series The Original Sinners.

For years, Kingsley Edge warned Eleanor the day would come when she, the mistress of a well-respected Catholic priest, would have to run and hide. She always imagined if that day came she’d be running away with Søren. But instead, she’s running from him.

Knowing Søren and Kingsley will their use their influence to bring her back, Eleanor alone, penniless and scared takes refuge at the one place the men in her life cannot follow: the abbey where her mother has taken orders. Behind the cloistered gates of the convent, Eleanor hides from the man she loves and hates in equal measure

She cannot, however, hide from her true nature. When Eleanor befriends a young virginal nun, she faces a startling sexual awakening. But Eleanor can’t stay forever, and the lure of her real life beckons beyond the locked gates. But to follow her fate means to leave Kyrie behind, a sacrifice Eleanor refuses to make

The lure of the forbidden. The temptation to sin. The price of passion has never been higher, and Eleanor will have to pay it if she ever wants to go home again.

Shorties reivew

Michelle: I never know what I am going to expect whenever I read one of Tiffany’s books, all I know that I can always count on a great story and pure awesomeness from Tiffany. Little did I know that not only would I be reading one story, but in actuality, we get two stories. Nora is reminiscing with both with Soren and King about “that year”, you know “that year” when Nora left Soren, yes, that one. I really do not want to rehash why because if you are a true Original Sinner fan, like me and my shortie Yaya, you will know why she left Soren oh those many years ago. King is telling both Soren and Nora the story on how he met Juliette.

Yaya: I’m no longer shocked. Thrilled? Extremely. If you haven’t learned by now that Tiffany Reisz will find a way of surprising you, then you obviously haven’t been paying attention correctly. Now in The Virgin she manages to give us the unspoken story of the one year where Eleanor leaves Søren. Because Søren did something so terrible according to her she could not forgive him for. We knew it had to be good. Eleanor leaving her Priest is like a sign of the apocalypse, but what I wasn’t ready for were new secrets and get this, the story is told in both Eleanor and King’s POV. Turns out King and her had some plans of their own and their favorite Sadist was not involved. Best part, that moment where our favorite Mistress Nora is born. Eeekkkk!!!

Michelle: I adore Nora, I love all of Tiffany’s the characters. We get to meet Kyrie, a soon to be ordained nun. Oh man Kyrie really cracked me up at times trying to find out why Nora was hanging out in a convent. I loved how Kyrie would earn her “points” with Nora to get to the truth of the matter. What I didn’t expect was how strong Nora’s feelings were for Kyrie. You will laugh and you will cry.

Yaya: If you aren’t aware Nora is bisexual. There’s something about Tiffany’s F/F scenes with Nora that you can’t help but admire. Although she doesn’t drastically change Nora being with a women, but I feel like Nora is very passionate with her ladies (Sheridan ). It’s not something being forced out of her, she does it willingly. In this case from a soon to be nun, Kyrie, who can keep up with her sarcasm and attitude. Kyrie develops a crush for Nora. Uh-Oh!!! You don’t say. Reminding you the convent is where Nora fled to hide because she thought no one would find her there. I love those moments where she thinks she hears a “certain” sound of a familiar motorcycle (Mental image of Søren in his Ducati ).

“… Now I’m starting to thinking something different. You hid behind your collar and get to play God while the rest of us do your bidding and suffer the consequence. You get the glory. She gets the bruises. Maybe it’s you who’s not worthy of her. Maybe it’s you who’s not worthy of me, either.” – Kingsley

Michelle: Oh my sweet Frenchman King. Can we love this sexy rogue anymore than we do, absofuckinglutely! He’s pissed at Soren, so what else is new? He travels around the world and ends up in Haiti. His interactions with Juliette oh man, so unexpected at times. Juliette is a real firecracker. Yet at times my heart went out for her.

Yaya: Mon Dieu!!! I love it when King says that. So not only is Nora pissed but so is Kingsley and like Michelle said, what else is new? If King wasn’t mad at Søren it wouldn’t be normal. At times it really seems like King is Søren’s wife with all the bickering they do. Sorry King, don’t be mad at me, but Søren turns you into mush. You go and try and change his Little One and you don’t think he’ll have a fit? Dude, he’s the Lord of your underground world. You’re “damaging” his goods or making them better as we see now. Then you go and keep a secret from him. Where is your shame Kingsley? Knowing King he’ll say he’s French and he doesn’t have any. After his run away from it all and traveling around the world, Haiti is where his heart will situate him for a while and all thanks to this woman named Juliette. Yes this is the story of how he meets his precious jewel. From the moment they meet to how they end up together, their story will knock you off your feet. Some good comedy in there too.

Michelle: You know Tiffany cannot do any wrong in my book whenever she writes. Her writing is so refreshing and makes you fall in love with all these characters more and more. You just don’t want to stop reading, for me anyway.

“You should know that as much as I love my Eleanor, my Little One, I do love Mistress Nora, too. It took me longer to fall in love with her, but now I love her as deeply as I love my Eleanor.”

Freaking Soren does it to me all the damn time, water works.

Yaya: Never enough. I want to grow old with these characters. I want to live in their stories. I want to personally know them and hangout with them. That’s how I feel every time I read this series. You may be asking yourself how many times do we need to read their stories? Infinity. I don’t ever want them to end. Yes we know their future story already, but never this detailed. This is going back and filling in the blanks for you. Sort of like behind the scenes. Always new, always fresh. Tiffany always finds a new way to freshen up your Sinners mindset. There’s just never a dull moment with this series. These characters will forever have a place in their fans hearts. They may not be the stories for you and that’s fine. I’ve said it many times have a big heart and a bigger open mind when you begin the series. What you think is right/wrong in your world, might be the complete opposite in theirs. It is why they are the Sinners❤️

After Dark’s Month of Madness: Day Thirty

It wasn’t pretty, but we now have a winner!

And the winner of the title “THE BEST OF THE WORST” is . . . .

Petrushka Ivanovic, Jameson’s ex – The Kane Trilogy by Stylo Fantôme

Congrats to Stylo Fantôme for creating such a deliciously evil woman!

After Dark’s Month of Madness – Day Twenty-Nine

The Best of the Worst
Round 5 Finals

When we started this tournament of sorts almost 30 days ago, we had no idea it would all come down to two annoying chicks.

But there is no denying that they fit the perfect role of a villain.  Sure, they were easy on the eyes, but that was part of their evil charm.  Fooling the man (Jameson or Colton) that they were good and only wanted was best for that guy.  All the while, lying and hurling insults at the book heroines.  And both shared the brilliant idea of a pregnancy to win the guy (fake or otherwise).  Obviously, these ladies aren’t smart, but there is no doubt that they will do anything to try and win the guy.  Thankfully, we all know how that worked out for them.  But only one gets to go home with the prize of champion.  So who will you vote for?

Petrushka Ivanovic, Jameson’s ex – The Kane Trilogy by Stylo Fantôme

Tawny Taylor – Driven series by K. Bromberg

Winner of this round wins the title as “THE BEST OF THE WORST”

A note from Stylo Fantôme about Petrushka:

“Petrushka is even crazier in my mind than she came off in the books. Her scariest quality is that she’s unhinged. Totally delusional – her behavior is perfectly acceptable, in her mind. Lying, stalking, breaking and entering, getting physical, it’s all okay to her – if a knife had ever been handy, she would have used it on Tate without a second thought. Easily my favorite scene with Petrushka is hands-down the fight in the apartment in Spain. It showcases her quiet insanity, and also, who doesn’t love a good girl fight?”

As Rhino would say . . .

Blog Tour (Book Review & Excerpt): The Reality O by Candy Sloane

Title: The Reality O
Author: Candy Sloane
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 170 pages
Rating: 3 stars

Fifteen Contestants, Twelve Episodes & One Very Big O

When my best friend Allie posted about my need for an inaugural O on a prominent dating website it was meant to be a joke.

A joke she was supposed to delete.

But her post started an internet and media frenzy and, when I was offered fifty thousand dollars to star in my own reality competition show, I had no choice but to say yes.

The Orgasm Virgin was supposed to help me meet a carnal companion who could finally bring me to climax.

Unfortunately, the one person I want to win the undying allegiance of my, well, you know, can’t be in the running at all.

Now in an L.A. mansion with fifteen very persuasive contestants vying for my attention and one undeniably sexy Production Assistant secretly getting it all the word ACTION has a whole new meaning…

Candy Sloane is an erotica author and the fictional creation of Lisa Burstein from the New Adult novel Sneaking Candy. The Orgasm Virgin is her debut novel.

Author’s Note: This book is about sex. There are men kissing women, women kissing women, and men kissing lady parts. It is not meant for readers under eighteen, or my mother.

Guest Review

Make me come for the very first time. Twenty-five-year-old busty, blond, green-eyed, straitlaced librarian, looking for a guy to be able to do what no one before him has.

This is the Craigslist ad Chris’ best friend Allie decided to post for her to get her some help in the orgasm department.  Now, you’d think this would be the start of a murder, since I’d have to kill my BFF if she ever did that, but no Chris is just mortified. She’s getting random dick pics and strange men trying’ to phone sex her up, but she handles it much better than I would.  But when this ad gets picked up on Reddit, and she’s offered the chance to star in a reality show called The Orgasm Virgin, well that’s when she meets Scott, the assistant producer on the project. Lots of insanity, and some romance happens.

The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between
Budget friendly price: it’s a Kindle Unlimited rental, or just 99 pennies.  Either way, it’s easy on the wallet.

I like some funny in my romance: If the choice comes down to angst or funny, I usually go for the funny because honestly, I think funny’s much harder to pull off.  Angst is part and parcel of a romance, but to make me laugh is something special. Here, the funny runs the gamut from scatological (the body fluids, oy vey) to puns, from cheese-whiz to actual giggles. I didn’t have any big snort-laugh kind of moments, but I spent a good amount of time smiling at the silliness of it all.

Decent leads: Chris and Scott had some good chemistry, even if I wasn’t necessarily blown away by their romance. I mean, there is definitely enough here to put the erotic in erotic comedy.  Their sex scenes had an interesting mix of humor and sexy (though there’s a moment with vinyl underwear that…well, Chris had to be a bit too oblivious for that joke to work).  Anyway, Chris is pretty good straight man for most of the jokes that occur throughout the book, since so much of the funny happens to her, instead of it coming from her. Scott seemed cute, and the tease for their love scenes was fun, if frustrating. I tend to prefer my heroes to be a bit more possessive and alpha, and Scott wasn’t as well-defined for me. He was cute, and he paired well with Chris, but I guess I was into the “show” part of the book more than Chris and Scott. Which leads me to…

Secondary characters stole the spotlight:  The plot and the secondary characters engaged me more than the leads. The glimpses behind the scenes of the making of this reality show were fun. Her friend Allie, Garrett the hardass producer and the Gasms, Chris’ potential hookups never referred to as anything but nicknames like Tongue and Kappa, have most of the best lines and I would have read a book focusing on them.

The Bottom Line
It’s a silly, funny story that had me giggling and occasionally eye rolling.  It was a quick and easy read that may appeal to those who favor reality shows and some scatological humor.

In my room later, soaking in a much-needed silky vanilla bubble bath and relishing the one area besides the toilet that was camera and microphone free on this reality show, I lay back. The bubbles in the bath covering my ears, soft popping noises enveloped me as I closed my eyes and breathed out.

At least there was always a bath to escape to.

I exhaled again and sunk my head lower, so the water danced against my lips. The cordless phone hanging on the wall beside the bathtub rang.

You’ve got to be kidding me.

I ignored it, exhaling louder, trying to counteract its insistent bell.

It stopped and my body relaxed, just the sound of water tinkling all around me, but in seconds it started ringing again. I ducked my head all the way under, anything to shut it up. It was muffled by the bath, but I could still hear it.

I jumped out of the tub, attempting not to kill myself by slipping on the marble floor. I wrenched it from the wall.

“The question is who?”

“Hi, V,” he said.

“Hi,” I replied, dripping wet. I reached for a soft white towel and wrapped myself up.

“I know we have some unfinished business,” he said, “and since I can’t come over I thought I’d call.”

“Talking isn’t really what I had in mind,” I said, my voice going low and husky.

“I know, but you’d be amazed what the right words can do.”

Didn’t I know that.

“Aren’t the lines tapped?”

He laughed. “No, that would be illegal.”

At least I hadn’t signed away that small bit of privacy in my contract for the show.

“How’s your bath?” he asked.

“Excuse me?” My eyes darted everywhere, looking for cameras.

“I could tell from the motion detectors in your room that you were in the bath,” he said. “Camera, mic free, and naked, it was hard to resist giving you a call.”

Heat overwhelmed me, so severe it stopped my breath. If it were anyone else it would have been creepy, but Scott made it seem sweet and outrageously sexy. As a production assistant on the show there were probably millions of other things he needed to be doing, but he’d decided instead to check up on me. By calling, he’d chosen the only way he could really talk to me in this insane asylum of a reality show I’d checked myself into.

“It was pretty nice until I got interrupted,” I smiled.

“I guess I need to make that interruption worth your while. Is your bathroom door closed?”

“You mean you can’t tell?” I asked, gently gliding my fingers along my collarbone.

“Smart-ass,” he replied. “Get back in the bath.”

“With the phone?”

“Live a little,” he chuckled. “Slide your sexy body back into that bathtub.”

I did as he said. His voice was suddenly hotter than any touch.

“Cradle the phone on your shoulder. I want to have you able to use both your hands.”

I obeyed.

“Caress yourself slowly, starting at your tits, playing with your nipples and tracing down.”

“You’re not wasting any time,” I said, my hands becoming his. The heat of the water was nothing compared to the lava running through my bloodstream as I teased my breasts. “Can I go lower?” I managed to whisper.

“One direction at a time,” he said. “I want those nipples so hard they are shrieking.”

“Okay,” I swirled my middle finger in blindingly burning circles around each nipple until they were throbbing.

“Slip your hands down to your stomach,” he said, “and don’t you dare go any lower. I’ll know from your breathing.”

“I’m there,” I said, pressing my fingers into my pubic bone like I was slamming the brakes on a car.

“How badly do you want to touch yourself?”

My fingers quivered. “So, so badly.”

“You need to wait.”

“I can’t,” I begged, “I can’t wait anymore.” Those were the words I had been keeping inside, and I was sharing them with Scott. Telling him I needed it, wanted it. Was going to do whatever I had to do to get it.

He smacked his lips together in satisfaction. “Just another second—get drunk on that anticipation, V.”

I dug my fingernails into my skin so hard I could feel welts starting to form.

“Please, Scott,” I said.

“Those are the magic words,” he sighed. “Now you can play with yourself.”

I eased my fingers down. I was sopping wet even in the water.

“Take one hand and spread until you can get right at your clit.”

I moaned.

“Slick your pointer finger against it, slowly, very slowly,” he instructed.

I moaned again.

“Slowly, I said.”

I managed to measure my movements, but I couldn’t keep myself from whimpering in delight again.

“Slower, V, this is my movie. Your pleasure escalates at my pace. I control when you come.”

“Okay,” I breathed, slowing slightly.

“Stick one of your fingers inside, but keep rubbing yourself.”

“Only one?”

“Make it two,” he bargained, “I want you to fuck yourself good and hard.”

I arched my back involuntarily, pressing against my hand as I slid two fingers in.

“Now a little faster. You’re going to come like my mouth is on you.”

I could feel the pressure building, the tightness inside me about to go. I’d masturbated before, but never like this. Never with a man’s voice guiding me—Scott’s voice guiding me. Scott’s words making me frantic to fuck myself good and hard.

“Thrust those fingers in deeper and keep rubbing that clit.”

My body was on fire. My breathing so erratic I felt faint. Pleasure slipped up from my toes to the tips of my hair, again and again. It almost felt like being electrocuted, my body trembling involuntarily with each shock. I wailed and collapsed against the back of the tub, every part of me tingling as I came.

“Sounds like I did my job.”

“Oh yeah,” I replied, barely able to breathe. “You deserve a raise.”

“Does that make up for the other night?”

“For now,” I said, forcing my hand against my pubic bone until it ached.

“Okay,” he said. “Even though my cock is throbbing, I didn’t touch myself at all. I only focused on you. Now we’re even.”

“Let me help you take care of that, then we’ll really be even,” I said, noticing that the bath water had grown cold.

“I want to hold off until it’s your hands on me, my hands on you, my cock tearing you in two.”

“Come over,” I said.

“Soon,” he replied. “And V, if you liked that—just wait.”

Even though it was only eight more days, eight more episodes we had to film before he and I could really be together, I didn’t think I could.

Positive. With two little lines on a pregnancy test, everything in Lizzy Rollins’ ordinary life is about to change forever. And all because of one big mistake in Vegas with Ben Nicholson, the irresistibly sexy bass player for Stage Dive. So what if Ben’s the only man she’s ever met who can make her feel completely safe, cherished, and out of control with desire at the same time? Lizzy knows the gorgeous rock star isn’t looking for anything more permanent than a good time, no matter how much she wishes differently.

Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She’s his best friend’s little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he’s not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he’s always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible…but will it lead to a connection of the heart?

“Where have you been?” My sister rushed forward, catching me up in a tight hug. “I’ve been trying to call you all day. We checked everywhere and couldn’t find you.”

“Sorry. I just needed some alone time.” I squeezed her back, unable to stop from smiling. The thought of Anne turning her back on me had scared me more than I liked to admit.

“Well, I get you might want that.” She stepped back. “But you could have told someone.”

“You can’t just disappear like that.” And Ben kept right on frowning. “Shit, Liz, you’re pregnant.”

“Don’t upset her,” snapped Anne.

Ben ignored her. “I don’t know what the hell’s going on in your head. But you need to let me know where you are.”

My eyebrows went up and my mouth opened, ready to rip him a new one.

“She doesn’t answer to you. She’ll let you know if and when she decides to let you know,” said Mal, laying down the law to his bandmate before turning my way. “You will text your sister next time you decide to go wandering for a day, understood?”

My mouth, it still hung open.

“Christ, man.” Over and over, Ben’s hands rolled into tight fists before releasing again. “Can you cut the shit and get off my back for a fucking minute?”

“Don’t swear at him.” My usually sensible and staid sister poked a finger dead center in Ben’s broad chest. “You’re the one that caused this mess, thank you very much. She might still be a little young and naive, but you’re definitely old enough to know better.”

“That’s right.” Standing about as tall as a skyscraper, despite only coming up to Ben’s nose, Mal stared him down. Or up. Whatever. “This is a family matter. You can leave, thanks.”

Blog Tour (Book Review & Excerpt): The Delivery by Mara White

Title: The Deilivery
Author: Mara White
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 300 pages
Rating: 3.5 stars

Lana Finch is a twenty-five-year-old social worker. She believes wholeheartedly in saving the world—one broken kid at a time. Lana is headstrong, she’s righteous and she’ll let nothing stand in her way. Except for maybe her entire family that’s financially dependent on her.

Enter Mozey Cruz, the eighteen-year-old juvenile delinquent assigned to her charge. He’s an illusive artist, he’s misunderstood, and he’s a natural born troublemaker.

Their love is illegal, much like Mozey’s undocumented status in the States. So Lana lets him go even though it might be the worst mistake she’ll ever make.

But destiny has a way of catching up with us even when we run from it.

Los Angeles————

————Mexico City

But first, Lana has to find him before she can deliver him.

Michelle's Review

I want to start off my review saying that I adore Mara White, I read her Heights Series last year and was totally hooked on her writing style. Unfortunately, I could not connect with this book. There isn’t much dialogue with the characters, it is more of a storytelling from Lana Flinch’s point of view. There is only one chapter of Mozey’s POV, and I wish there was more, maybe I could have connected more with the book.

Lana is a social worker helping delinquents getting jobs and making sure they are doing their community service work. At Pathways, she meets the graffiti artist Moises De La Cruz. He’s eighteen, but had a body of a 20 something year old. Lana is immediately taken with Mozey from the very beginning, but she will not put her job on the line just because her libido says so. Moizey is super intelligent that’s for sure. He too is very taken with Lana. He goes above and beyond to impress Lana. Lana is very wishy washy with her affections towards Mozey. I get it. She doesn’t want to lose her job, the age difference really wasn’t a big difference IMHO.

The story moves three years after Lana had asked Mozey to leave her alone until she receives a phone call from Mozey who is in trouble yet again. Lana has since left Pathways and has moved in with a new beau. She still puts on her social worker hat and keeps Mozey at bay. All for nothing because she ends up in Mexico where he is deported.

In Mexico befriends two wonderful gay guys, Tommy and Rocco. I loved the banter between these three. They help Lana in trying to locate Mozey. Yet again, when she finally meets up with Mozey, she’s still denying her feelings for him. I hated the head games she was playing. I was surprised at how Mozey stood around putting up with her games.

I really struggled with this book. Again, it has nothing to do with the writing style, it was more the story was laid out and the lack of dialogue, add to the fact that Lana really pissed me off throughout the entire book did not help either.

*An ARC was provided by the author for an honest review.

Monday morning is bad. I’m a complete wack job.

Do you know how to ignore someone you have the total hots for? What if you had to see them everyday? Could you do it? I can help. Been there-done that. Just let me explain.

Here’s how . . .

One: deny eye contact. All eye contact must and will be denied. Look at the floor. Study the cracks in the linoleum and the stains on the carpet. Memorize the thick, yellowing varnish on the hardwood floors in the hall and try to come up with a number for how many times they’ve been sanded and sealed up again. There’s so much to see (on the floor) if you only look hard enough.

Two: sex—have a few one-night stands with dudes who are sufficiently attractive enough for you to get a lady boner going after a couple of drinks. (Does this, perhaps, sound kind of repulsive to you? Believe me, it can be if you don’t have the right attitude.)  They’re of age, adults, consensual, informed, blah, blah, blah (but please, do note that those things are important). This stops your body from pleading with you for just one more kiss from the person you’re dying inside for and trying so desperately to avoid. It works; just make sure you use protection so you don’t end up with any diseases or a case of the babies. What? I’m gross you’re thinking? I’m telling you, releasing sexual tension is of utmost necessity.

Three: throw yourself at someone else. Do you have a Gunnar Anderson who frequents your office? Use it to your advantage. Peel your eyeballs off of the dotted ceiling board and flirt with him, ruthlessly, aimlessly until you’re giddy from so much stupidity, until your face fucking hurts from being such a ventriloquist’s dummy. Don’t sleep with your Gunnar. That would complicate things. This needs to remain fairly easy. We’re trying to get a job done here, aren’t we?

Four: drink. Not just get blasted on Fridays but every night of the torturous week. Drink wine out of a box on Wednesday while you binge on Chinese take-out and watch terrible TV. Then accidently let out your neighbor’s cat—the one you’re supposed to be feeding. Spend all day Thursday making missing cat fliers at the office in between puking sessions in the communal staff bathroom. Done!

Five: last but not least, stop trying. Look like shit. Don’t even wash your clothes. How can anyone be attracted to you when they are starting to suspect that secretly you’re homeless? You can bathe, but do it without enthusiasm. Leave a ton of conditioner in your hair, so it takes on that dull, greasy sheen that Daisy’s fur had when you finally found her after work one night, meowing outside the Lavateria six blocks from your house.

It’s effective. It works. It hurts like a bitch. Especially when you have to stare at the beautiful painting he made you every time you step foot in the office. You have to remember he thinks you’re an impenetrable prickly pear when all you want in the world is for it to be him who penetrates you. On (oh!) so many levels.

Mara White is a contemporary romance and erotica writer who laces forbidden love stories with hard issues, such as race, gender and inequality. She holds an Ivy League degree but has also worked in more strip clubs than even she can remember. She is not a former Mexican telenovela star contrary to what the tabloids might say, but she is a former ballerina and will always remain one in her heart. She lives in NYC with her husband and two children and yes, when she’s not writing you can find her on the playground.

Nothing will compare to the reign of terror that is about to envelope the entire country. First they were Ruthless, now they are pure Savages. The end is here, and no one is safe…

Grace Review

Never go down without a fight! That could very well be the theme of this whole series, but most certainly is the motto of this book.

Liam and Melody came into each others lives, kicking, screaming and yes, even shooting. They are unlike any couple I’ve read about previously. As the respective heads of their Mafia families, they rule with a iron fist and aren’t afraid to get dirty, and bloody to make a point. There union was filled with passion and anger. Hate and love. They fight mean. But love harder. And this conclusion to their story, showcases the strength of this couple. They truly can survive anything.

While they went into their marriage fighting, now they will do everything in their power to save each other, their family, and their legacy.

“I’m going to have you tonight, baby, but my question to you is: do you want one orgasm, or do you want to lose track?”

This series is unlike other mafia books and movies I have read or watched. Most feature a man or group of men in charge, who rule their families and build their empire. The women usually play a small role, typically spending their husband’s dirty money. But Melody is no typical Mafia wife. She can go toe to toe with Liam, and its worth repeating, she is one of my favorite female book characters. She doesn’t take shit from anyone, even the President of the United States. She exudes confidence and power, with only brief moments of vulnerability. She’s not only tougher than some men I know, but also really smart. She always seemed to have a plan and be two steps ahead.

“My life went from The Godfather to Jason Bourne, from the hunter to the hunted.  I wish I could have been in jail.  So if you’re looking for an apology, pull it out of your ass, you son of a bitch.  I will not let you, or your fucking family, try to tear me down when I myself am barely holding on.”

Now, I could go on and on about why I like her as a character so much, but if you’ve read the previous books you know, she is not a heroine. She is the definition of an anti-heroine, just as Liam is the anti-hero. They don’t just kill bad guys, many innocent lives are lost as they gain power. Did motherhood soften her up? Not so much.

While Melody and Liam are far from angels, there are villains in this book that will have you cheering for these mobsters. Olivia made the decision to go to the dark side in the previous book. Her reasons for turning on her own family were deep seated in jealously. She makes some very unwise decisions along the way, but believe me when I say, she pays for those decisions.

Then there is the evil FBI Director, Avian Doers. If you follow our blog regularly, you know that we are in the tail end of Month of Madness tournament, to find the Best of the Worst. Avian could have easily made a run in this tournament. Despite his prestigious title, he is evil. Hell bent on control and power. Although he has moments of outsmarting our dirty family, they have an Ace in the deck to win their hand. And yes, even a morally flawed family can get a HEA.

With Melody and Liam’s story coming to an end, I’m sad to see them go. They have thoroughly entertained me as they navigate the world of crime and power. Lots of blood was spilled, lots of lives were lost. Along the way, one vulnerability, family, showed they weren’t untouchable. But in the end, they used their combined power to rise above all their challengers, proving that two ruthless leaders are better than one.

Sleeping on the couch is a bitch.
My back ached even after my morning run, even after a round of sit-ups and stretches—and a long, hot, lonely shower.
As I padded past the bedroom, a towel around my waist, I tried the knob once more.
Still locked.
I pressed my ear to the door and frowned.
Hannah had been bunkered in our bedroom all night and most of this morning. It was nearly noon. The AC ticked on and I sighed, roaming back to the kitchen.
“I am definitely in the doghouse,” I muttered to Laurence.
A notepad on the counter contained my list for the day.

– Talk about things w/Hannah (money, therapy, Chrissy)
– Date (picnic or dinner)

I peeled off the note and wrote another.

Hannah baby, please come out. You can’t stay in there forever. I’m sorry. I love you. I need clothes. XO

I knocked gently on the bedroom door before slipping the note beneath it. Then I retreated to the TV room.
Several minutes later, I heard the door squeak open and clap shut.
I returned to find it locked, a pair of my socks folded on the floor beside a note.

Here you go.

Grinning, I turned over her note and wrote another.

Where am I supposed to wear these? Or am I supposed to use them for something else? Take pity on a half-naked man. It’s getting chilly out here.

I flicked my reply under the door, then sat on the floor and waited. Soon I heard Hannah rustling in the bedroom. The door opened a crack and a T-shirt flew out.
She slammed it shut quickly.
Click went the lock.
“Goddamn it, Hannah.”
I pulled on the T-shirt and shot another note under the door.

Is this your way of saying you want to see my dick? So coy . . .

A moment later, the door opened and a pair of sweatpants hit me in the face.
“Hannah!” I lunged against the door. “Baby bird?”
No reply.
God, women are fucking mysterious.
