New Release (Book Review): Already Famous by Heather Leigh

Title: Already Famous (Famous #4)
Author: Heather Leigh
Genre: New Adult
Length: 350 pages
Rating: 4.5 stars

Drew Forrester is a regular guy from Boston, MA with an unusual job. His work keeps him from getting close to anyone, unwilling to give his trust, especially after a terrible betrayal when he left home at nineteen to pursue his dream.

He throws himself into his work and his favorite way of releasing his frustrations, Brazilian Ju Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. He resorts to short term hook-ups, figuring he’ll be alone forever.

When a gorgeous redhead literally falls into his life, he decides that it’s fate and pursues her relentlessly. But this girl is seriously damaged, and keeps secrets that he doesn’t understand and can’t get her to reveal. Her lack of trust and seeming paranoia about letting anyone get close to her leads Drew to keep some secrets of his own.

This is a companion novel to Relatively Famous, told from Drew’s point of view.

Michelle's Review
Hello there wonderful followers of the blog, so if you have read my previous reviews regarding The Famous Series by Heather Leigh, then you already know how much I really loved this series.  So when I heard Heather was writing a 4th book with Drew’s POV, I had to snatch it up.  As you read from the synopsis, this is the companion novel to Relatively Famous (Book #1), same storyline but with Drew’s POV.  I love reading alternating POVs between the main characters, especially a males POV.

Ok on to the good stuff right.  You already know how Sydney had no idea who the hell Drew (or rather Andrew Forrester) was when she literally fell in front of the gym he works out of.  When Drew meets Sydney for the first time, he was apprehensive, like is she going to be a stalker, crazy fan or groupie.  When Drew finally realizes that she really does not know who he really is, he is really intrigued.  It so good to be himself with a woman and not having her go bat shit crazy around him.

Drew cannot seem to stop thinking about Sydney, so ever so smoothly, he asked his driver where did he drop off the hottie with the body.  Turns out, Ms. Sydney lives 2 blocks away from him and his driver ever so efficiently hands him a napkin of her favorite coffee shop.  So after a few days, Drew makes the drastic effort to be at said coffee shop (and not look like a crazy stalker himself), he just makes sure he is incognito just in case some of his crazy fans do recognize him.  He wears what Sydney calls his “repellant outfit” so he doesn’t stand out.  Moving ahead, they are having a wonderful conversation, Sydney’s, BFF Leah’s, stops by, tells her why all the commotion at the coffee shop, when Drew hears the name Adam Reynolds.  You already know the deets on this part, but you get Drew’s perspective for his hatred towards Adam.

Drew is intrigued and fascinated with Sydney and he wonders why she is so apprehensive towards all things celebrity.  He’s afraid of telling her who he truly is because he really enjoys her company.  In his mind, he’s already in love with her because she’s so refreshing.

Drew plans quiet dinners, getaways wherein no one can recognize him, etc., you know the bit.  You see also see he walks on eggshells so he doesn’t freak Sydney out about his “famous” status.  You also will see how and why Drew is so over-the-top protective, alpha, and downright romantic.  At times I wanted to punch him because he was extremely jealous or his temper would get the best of him.  I times I wanted to punch him for his caveman ways, but hey, he’s a keeper in my book.

Yet, through this read, I fell in love all over again with Drew.  He is definitely BBF material ladies.  I’m so glad I got to read his POV.  I think Ms. Heather might give us some novellas on Drew and Sydney’s journey, I really hope she does.  I liked them so much.

Debating Number Ten by Amalie Silver

His goal was ten. Ten notches on his bed post before seducing his debate coach, Miss Shields. Will Simon reach his ideal woman, or will he end up Debating Number Ten?

Michelle's Review
Simon Blackwell III, the star of his debate team.  Yet his goal in life is to get his Number 10 on his bed post and that would be Ms. Katie Shields.  Not only is she his English teacher, but she also runs the debate team.  There’s some serious chemistry between these two.   Arleen Carlson throws a curveball to those plans.  He meets Arleen one night and he sees how lonely she is.  Simon tries to strike a conversation with Arleen, but she’s so not interested.  The next day in class, guess who enters the classroom, none other than Arleen.  Simon makes sure to meet up with Arleen at their rendezvous area.  She makes up a rule about not discussing school.  Simon has these feelings for this girl.  He even forgets that he’s in lust with Ms. Shields.  They are paired off to be debate members, but he can’t seem to have her open up to him.  When she does, he finds out why she’s so standoffish towards him and he goes about doing everything he can to prove to her he can change.  This was a wonderful read, you will not like Simon at first, I don’t want to put too many spoilers, but in the end he redeemed himself in my book.  There isn’t a cliffy, so you get a nice story.

Deviation by M.C Cerny

Deviation: an action, behavior, or condition that is different from what is usual or expected. example: Edith and Jack deviate from the acceptable student teacher relationship.

Michelle's Review
Edith is on scholarship and she’s barely passing her Statistics class.  She needs at least a B or better in order to keep her scholarship.  Speaking of said scholarship, she barely makes due with it since it only pays for tuition and not all of her books.  She works two part-time jobs and donates blood whenever she can so she can have extra cash.  She is very frugal because of her lack of funds.  Her Statistics Teacher Assistant announces that their hard ass professor is taking a leave of absence due to health problems and they will be getting a new professor.  Of course, Edith is hoping this new teacher isn’t as hard as Mr. Roth.  Yea, well wishful thinking right?  Enter Jack Hamilton the bane of her high school crush.  He’s the one that she’s always fantasized about but couldn’t have.  Jack recognizes Edith, and he too remembers her.  He almost quit teaching because of her.  He’s always wanted her back then, but knew he couldn’t have her.  The attraction is undeniable.  They both want each other, but at what cost?  Certain events take place that will make or break their relationship.  “I want you, Edith.  I want to bury myself in your wet pussy and feel you clamp around me.  He thrusts his hips into mine, grinding against me.”  This book also ends in a cliffhanger, but according to the author, we should have the second installment in early 2015.  I really liked this novella and want more of Jack and Edith.

The Life Plan by Phalla S. Rio.

Everything was perfect, until the middle of my senior year. Our art teacher succumbed to bad health, leaving us with a substitute–and my plans turned to flames, turning into ashes. I thought I wasn’t going to fall anymore. But the moment I laid eyes on Mr. Tomlinson, I begin to fall all over again. This can’t be happening…

Michelle's Review
Freckled-faced ginger by the name of Vida still remembers the boy that stole her heart at the age of 8.  His name, Connor Tomlinson.  Vida has just received the most amazing news, her acceptance to Boston University on full scholarship.  She shares the news with her BFF Amber, they make plans to celebrate, but she needs to head to her next class.  Of course, her usual teacher is not there, enter Connor Tomlinson and looking hotter and better than ever.  He, too, remembers Vida, but has to play it cool.  Vida’s life is pretty sad, there is a huge scandal involving her father, yet she loves him with all her heart.  Because of that scandal, Connor had to leave with his family and has returned to become a teacher.  “Every second that I was away from you, I wanted to come back and take you away from here, from this life, from all the secrets we’ve had to keep.  I want you to wake up happy and go to sleep happy, and not have to carry the pain you’re carrying.  I love.”  Connor had made a promise to Vida many years ago, and she’s wants that promise ASAP.  This was a very quick novella, we get the full story to, The Life Plan, early 2015.  I cannot wait.

Life Plan

But, when the new teacher walks into her music class she definitely wakes up and takes notice. Josh Tyler’s playing and singing at bar’s and practices doesn’t give him much time but, when he walks into the first day of his new music class and notices a beautiful girl sitting in the back, a fresh set of issues arise and a whole lot of trouble.

Michelle's Review
Emma’s last year of college can’t happen soon enough.  She’s barely making it, studying and bartending at night.  On her first day of music class, Josh Taylor enters her world.  All the girls are already hot for him.  Emma just wants to get this class over with.  Josh is very taken with the beautiful girl in his class.  He’s so over the groupies that follow him and his band around.  He’s teaching until his band can get a big break from a record company.  Josh is so taken with Emma that he starts helping her with her Calculus class.  On the night that Emma is working at the bar, Josh and his band the “Unforgettable” are hitting the stage.  Emma is so taken with his music.  The mutual sexual attraction is palpable.  Josh just wants to take care of Emma.  She’s so worried about anyone finding out about them.  Josh will sacrifice anything just to be with Emma.  I really loved this novella, no cliffy and a beautiful HEA.

Unwritten History by Missy Johnson and Carly Grey

We met online.  We’d been friends for nearly six months before we finally met. Sparks fly. Things happen.  I don’t know what it is we have, but then again, I’m only seventeen.  He thinks I’m twenty, because that’s what I tell him.  But Secrets never stay hidden for long.

Michelle's Review
17-year-old Jill is very lonely since she moves around from state-to-state because her dad is in the Army.  She’s so lonely that creates an online dating profile stating that she’s really 20-years-old.  After weeding out the weirdoes and perverts, she starts chatting up with Eli.  Eli has been wanting to have an actual conversation with Jill beyond the online site.  Jill finally relents after a “dare” and they exchange numbers.  Jill finds out that Eli will be moving to Denver due to a family issue (which is where she is from) and he really wants a face-to-face.  Oh they finally meet alright and what a hot night they have.  But the lie about Jill’s age comes to the forefront and Eli is a little peeved.  Jill is so heartbroken and doesn’t know what to do.  She goes back to school and her teacher announces that he must take a leave of absence and his son will be taking his place.  Do you hear the suspense music in the background, right?  Guess who’s the substitute teacher?  Yep, Eli!!!!!  This book ended in a cliffhanger and we will not get to know what happens to Jill and Eli until November 2015.  I really was getting into this novella and when I got to the end and found out that the next installment is not until November 2015, I was a little disappointed.  I hope the authors will change their minds, maybe their publisher cannot push it out until then, but we may forget what has happened with such a long gap until the next book IMHO.

Rite of Passage by Mandee Mae

Haley knew she had a lot to learn since she pretty much grew up in a bubble.  She just didn’t realize the classroom wasn’t the only place she was going to be taught new and exciting things.

Michelle's Review
Hailey is a college freshman and on scholarship.  She couldn’t wait to start and be away from her strict family that live in Utah.  She moves into a home with a bunch of co-eds in the house (3 girls and 3 guys).  Hailey so shy at first, but the group welcomes her with open arms.  The girls notices that Hailey is very shy and “naïve” about things.  Liam, one of the boys that live in the house, takes a liking to Hailey very quickly.  Hailey just wants to fit in with the bunch as best as she can.  The girls quickly take Hailey under their wings and discuss with Hailey all things sex lol.  Let’s just say that these girls definitely educated Hailey on sex.  Things start heating up with Hailey and Liam.  Hailey finds out about Liam’s past and she feels very connected with him, kindred spirits.  Moving 4 years forward and these bunch of co-ed roommates are ready for graduation.  Hailey and Liam have an awesome HEA.  I will say this, Hailey got her Ph.d in all things sex with this bunch of roommate.  There is a great quote in the book by Liam that really puts this book into perspective for Hailey: “Haley.  He places his hands on either side of my face so I look directly into his eyes.  Everything you’ve done since the day you moved out has been a rite of passage.  It was your right to move out on your own.  It’s your right to want to go to school to better yourself…and it’s your right to let me do all those wicked things to you that I know you love.” I really enjoyed this novella.

The Teacher’s Pet by Niquel

The Cunningham twins looked alike but were polar opposites. When Maxine Sheppard, the sexy English teacher, arrived, they had one common goal: becoming the teacher’s pet.

Michelle's Review
Zeek is 17 and turning 18 in a few months.  He’s very studios and takes school very seriously.  Then there is his twin brother Zach, star quarterback, cocky and a douche.  They do not get along or see eye-to-eye.  Rachel is Zeek’s very good friend, he’s always liked her, but never wanted to take things further than friendship.  Ms. Maxine Sheppard is the new creative writing teacher.  Both Zeek and Zach take a liking to her.  Zach is more obvious than Zeek.  Ms. Sheppard also spearheads the Mathletics, and somehow, Rachel talks Zeek into becoming a member.  He is all too happy to join once he knows that Ms. Sheppard is the one in charge.  Zach is trying to figure anyway he can get into Ms. Sheppard’s pants, but is now distracted by a lovely young lady by the name of Amber.  Zeek becomes Ms. Sheppard’s intern.  He helps her out grading papers and organizing her paperwork, he’s so attracted to her.  Well life throws a nice curveball for these two young men.  The author left a “TO BE CONTINUED” note at the end, but did not mention when the next installment will be issued.  I hope sooner rather than later because I was left hanging.  A very good quick read.

Love Lessons by Liv Morris

Desperate to find a teaching job after graduating college, Tali Tillman returns to her high school to teach English Literature. One of her students and star quarterback, Daniel Johnson, begins to fail her class, so Tali’s asked to tutor him after-hours. Lines between teacher and student become blurred, but will they be crossed?

Michelle's Review
Staci Tillman is back in at her old high school as an English teacher and the cheerleading coach.  She’s immediately attracted to the high school star quarterback Daniel Johnson.  He has such a sad story, his parents are overly protective of him because of a situation that happened with his brother.  Staci needs to give Daniel tutoring classes because he’s failing English.  She’s wondering how is it that he’s failing her class since he’s passed his other English courses in the past.  After a very hot tutoring lesson, she finds out why Daniel is failing.  His overbearing mother wants Daniel out of Staci’s class.  She notices the mutual attraction between these two.  She doesn’t want another tragic situation to happen to Daniel like her other son.  This novella was also quick and you felt the pain for Daniel.  There is a beautiful HEA at the end.

Love L

Teach Me by Elle Bright

History belongs in the past. Or so Savannah thought, until her new history professor decides to teach her a thing or two…

Michelle's Review
Savannah Bradsha is pre-med and needs to take an American Civilization as part of her requirement.  She so does not want to take this class.  As she is dreading the class, who enters but Jake Anderson.  He use to be best friends with her brother Trevor, but after an awful accident many years ago in which he was involved in with Trevor, he left town.  He is now a teacher teaching said American Civilization.  Jake remembers little Vanna, as he use to call her.  He seems what a beautiful young woman she has turned into.  Jake notices that although Savannah is very bright, her work doesn’t reflect her emotions into her essay.  He wants to show her what true love is.  He schedules tutoring lessons for Savannah, but he cannot help the strong attraction he has for her.  His nightmare of the awful event that happened many years ago still haunt him.  He wants for Savannah to feel a connection towards life.  Savannah is a cynic.  This was a very quick read with a cliffhanger.  Not sure when the next book comes out since it ended “To be continued.”

Extra Credit by Nicole Blanchard

If nothing else the expensive education at St. Christopher’s College should have thoroughly instilled upon Eve Stratton the virtues of avoiding risks. But much like her namesake, all it takes for her resolution to be swayed are the smooth words of a charming devil. And Theodore Drake, her new professor, may as well have come with a warning label. Even though she’s well aware that a relationship could mean ruin for them both, there’s nothing more alluring than the temptation.

Michelle's Review
Evelyn “Evie” Stratton is trying to get an internship at the arts department at her school.  She goes to party the day before her audition and meets the illustrious Theodore Drake.  She cannot believe he would be attending this party.  He has left the acting world to find happiness in love instead.  Instead, he’s back and is the new Theatre Arts Professor and one of the judges for her audition.  After an awkward meeting, the next day, Evie auditions.  Evie only wants to become a director not necessarily on stage, yet Drake sees the potential in her to becoming an actress on stage.  Theodore is intrigued with Evie and wants to help her.  The attraction is there for them both, but his soon-to-be ex-wife might throw a curve towards any relationship they might have.  This novella ended rather quickly and I really wanted more of a story.  I’m not even certain if the author meant to end it the way she did.  I was left wondering if there was a continuation of Evie and Theodore’s story.  Overall, I did enjoy what little of the story I did read.

Book Review: Miss Congeniality by Marie Garner

Title: Miss Congeniality (The Misses Trilogy #1)
Author: Marie Garner
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: pages
Rating: 3.5 stars

Miss Congeniality doesn’t curse. Miss Congeniality doesn’t have tattoos. Miss Congeniality doesn’t drink shots. Miss Congeniality doesn’t ride motorcycles….Or does she?

When America’s sweetheart…
Brea Richards is America’s sweetheart. Dubbed Miss Congeniality by the media, Brea has spent years honing her current reputation. And being one of the leading stars of a prime time television show…priceless. It’s a long way from her humble beginnings, but that’s her secret to keep. Or at least that’s what she believes until she gets the phone call.

Meets America’s bad boy…
Lance Holder is America’s bad boy, the guy they love to hate. He lives life the way he wants, and makes no apologies, regardless of what anyone thinks. All everyone sees is the tattooed, motorcycle riding, reckless movie star, preventing anyone from looking beneath the surface. And that’s just fine with Lance. Until his new gig puts him right in the path of Brea.

Will either one escape unscathed?
Lance is the newbie on Brea’s show, and everyone is watching to see if America’s bad boy will influence Miss Congeniality. They don’t know Brea’s worst influences happened long before Lance entered the picture. And Lance seems to be one of the only ones to see beyond her current façade. Maybe America’s bad boy is just what America’s sweetheart needs.

Grace Review
Have you ever wanted to be rich and famous?  This book reminds me of my typical answer to that question, HELL NO!

Brea was born into the disgusting world of prostitution and drugs.  Thanks to her brother, she was by and large, protected from that world.  Given a chance to escape, she doesn’t hesitate.  She leaves behind her old life for a new one, the one she always dreamed of, in front of a camera.  But if you follow any celebrities, you know that life isn’t always perfect on the top, there are plenty of people trying to drag you down.

When Lance walks into Brea’s world, he changes it for the good, with an explosive sexual chemistry that neither can ignore.

“Get this through your head – I want you.  Today, tomorrow, every day, I want you.”

But the media like to spin things, and anything involving a bad boy, can’t possibly be good, right?  The media and her producers begin to challenge Lance’s influence her Miss Congeniality persona.

“Our personas became this living, breathing monster.  Some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy no one anticipated.”

I’ll be honest, I didn’t like Brea’s character initially.  She seems a bit suck up, and I didn’t agree with how she handled her brother’s situation.  In addition, when media reports directly impact her career, she blames the one person who has supported her all along, Lance.  This guy will do anything for her, and she seems to turn on him so quickly.  He’s not flawless, making some bad decisions along the way, but you see the good in him when the media only report the bad.   Eventually, Brea does manage to redeem herself after awhile, but it took some time for me to respect her again.

This story is told in the third person, and while the author tries to capture the feelings of the characters, I didn’t feel a strong connection to them.   Even though we don’t get Brea’s POV, the story does focus on her and how she handles the building drama surrounding her.   Given that I liked Lance more, I wish would have gotten more of his reactions to everything.

Overall, this is an entertaining read about how to handle, or not handle life in the spotlight.  And no matter how many curve balls life throws you, having someone to love and support you should be what truly matters.

Loving and being loved had a redemptive quality one would never truly experience, except with the one person you were meant to be with.

As book one of a trilogy, based on the ending, I’m guessing Raquel Miss Man-eater, will get the next book.  Her experiences with the media are even worse than Brea’s so that should be a fun ride.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Day: October 26th

Cover Designer: Robin Harper at Wicked by Design

Branson Wellington? The name, my name, is usually followed by arrogant prick or self-serving bastard, and I can’t say I haven’t earned those titles. It’s true. I’m not the good guy. I’m not the boy next door. I’m definitely not your Prince fucking Charming. Not even close.

And I never wanted to be. Until her. The day I pulled her from the wreckage was the day that my life changed.

Who would have thought that one little lie had the power to throw two lives off course?

Love has never been in the cards for me, but now that she’s here, I have no idea how I’m ever going to let her go. Even if I don’t deserve her.

Because like I said, I’m a self-serving bastard and some things never change.

“There are some questions I need to ask you, but we can do that in a little bit. Until then, is there anyone you want us to call? Someone on scene was able to find your purse, which fortunately hadn’t been destroyed in the blast. There was no emergency contact information in your purse, however, and you’ve only been out of surgery for a couple of hours. We haven’t been able to track anyone down as of yet.”

The last thing I want is Victoria and William showing up here, especially with Benjamin in tow. Not wanting to worry anyone, I decide I’ll call Alyssa once things calm down. “No, I’m not from around here, and the last thing I want to do is worry my family. When I’m feeling a little more rested, I’ll give them a call.”

The nurse gives me an understanding smile, and I sigh with relief that she’s not going to push me on this. At least not yet. “Okay, Ms. Covington. I understand completely. I’ll just set your purse here, and if you feel up to it, your cell is still inside. Now, I need to answer this page, but if you need anything in the meantime, don’t hesitate to hit the nurses’ call button. You may feel a little drowsy from the pain medication, so for now, try to get some rest.”

I watch as she leaves the room before I rest my head on my pillow, replaying the events of the past twenty-four hours. What should’ve been the prelude to one of the best days of my life has turned into a nightmare. Instead of wearing a white wedding dress, I’m stuck in a hospital gown. And even now, my fiancé—or, well, former fiancé—is the last man on my mind. No, instead, I’m thinking about the beautiful man who saved my life. Who once told me that he was beyond saving.

The night I met Branson Wellington, he was a mess. A drunken, pitiful, angry mess. This evening, I saw no signs of that man. I saw confidence. I saw arrogance. I saw determination. But I also saw the pain, the anger, the frustration. That broken man is still in there no matter what strides he’s made since that night eight months ago. Tonight, he saved me. And even though he once said that it’s impossible, I’m making it my mission to save him, too.

You got to know me in my best friend Savannah’s series. Now it’s my turn to tell you my story and for you to see my best friend’s journey to her happily ever after through my eyes.

My life is far from the norm. First off, I’m not your average girl. I’m wild, crazy, and everyone who knows me say’s I’m a free spirit. I guess I am, because I don’t sweat the little things.

Life is too short.

I love hard and live harder. My dream is to become a star and that dream comes first and foremost before anything and anyone…except for my best friend Savannah, who I’d go to hell and back for.

At 24 years old, I’m not looking for love. I’m just looking for a good time and a nice distraction after busting my butt on a movie set all week. The thought of falling in love has never crossed my mind.

I’m too driven for love and everything that comes with it.

That is until I meet a certain Southern hottie by the name of Dixon Beaumont, who just so happens to be the cousin of Kayden Knox. He flips my world upside down the moment we meet.

The only problem is he’s the male version of me: Career driven and enjoying having a good time with no plans on settling down.

Throw in a bad boy rocker and a sweet Aussie and I find myself going from a simple, carefree life to a full-blown love square. It’s going to be dramatic. But hey, what’s life without a little drama?

Michelle's Review
If you’ve read the Savannah Series, you’ve already meet Brooklyn Bennett.  She’s Savannah’s BFF (side note, I haven’t read the Savannah Series, but will add to my long list TBR).

Brooklyn is a 24-year-old aspiring actress trying to get her big break in films, for now she does stunt work on movies.  She’s blonde hair, brown-eyed hottie.  She is self assured and knows what she wants and gets it.  She doesn’t want a long term relationship because her main focus is her acting career.  Plus, as she says, she gets “bored” easily.  Brooklyn is very sassy and has no filter, my type of girl.  Like the blurb says, she’s a true free spirit.

Brooklyn and Savannah decide to move back to Texas, they are so over the LA scene, and since Savannah is now dating hot billionaire Kayden Beaumont, they both decided a change in scenery will do them good.

Brooklyn only hopes she can hook up with a hot Texan while she’s out there.  Her girlie parts is in need of a good lay, according to her, LA men are very superficial and all about themselves.  Here is a funny quote from Brooklyn to Savannah:

“What?! You should know me by now; I need the dirty details Savannah! Plus I had the worst lay of my life last night… I swear that man couldn’t find my G-spot if I drew the idiot a freakin’ map!” I seriously need a good lay. I’m still bumming over that last hook-up.”

So as soon as she arrives in Texas, Brooklyn is all hot for Savannah’s sexy driver/bodyguard Jax.  It doesn’t hurt that he’s also Australian.

“I so want his thunder in my down under while he says my name with that hot ass Aussie accent!”.

That’s a hook up in the making right there, which said hook up does take place a little later in the book.   This man from down under did get under, over and inside of Brooklyn in many ways.

Brooklyn’s next conquest after being in Texas just one day is Xander, whom she meets at a club.  He has tattoos, which is her weakness, a tongue ring and best of all, he’s a rocker (hello!).  The sexual chemistry is so hot with these two, so guess what, they hook up.  Not only does Xander rocks Brooklyn’s world with that tongue ring (you know where girls), he sports a reverse Prince Albert ring on his manly parts.  Ok this is where my heart stopped working lol.  I’ve heard of such phenomenon but I had to Google this tantalizing tidbit.  All I can say is ouch for Xander, but hurray for Brooklyn to get some of that in her (literally).  Xander and Brooklyn got their groove on and then some for several hours.  Let me tell you all, this is a must read scene in the privacy of your home, you’ve been warned.

Brooklyn is already happy that the men in Texas (Jax and Xander so far) already meet her expectations.  Moving forward, she finally gets to meet Kayden’s cousin Dixon.  Dixon is the brother Kayden never had and are real right.  When Brooklyn meets Dixon, of course, she’s all hot for him.  Dixon comes off like an asshole, he even admits that he is an asshole with women, screw them and leave them type of man.

“Keep it fun, and the second the girl tries to get serious, I get the fuck out of here.  Yep, you can just call me Forrest Gump because all I can think of is run, Forrest run!  Get your ass out of there and run as fast as your fucking legs can carry you.”

See, asshole.

Yet, Dixon feels an attraction towards Brooklyn, but he wants to stay far away from that attraction.  He’s hot one minute, then cold the next.  Of course, the mutual attraction between these two will happen, and oh boy does it ever.  When these two finally hook up, it’s fireworks.  Let’s just say that all the sex these two have had with others, surpasses anything they ever had with others (and that’s telling you a lot since I already told you about Xander and Jax).

Although Brooklyn and Dixon are trying to be cool about things, their alternating POVs will tell you otherwise.  What’s going to happen, hmm, right, I’m thinking the same.  This book leaves you with a nice cliffhanger and it involves Savannah.

Ok so why my 3 star review, although I really loved Brooklyn and her quick wit, her no filter and her sassy ways, my issue was with the plot itself.  I felt like I was missing something.  When Dixon went to explain his life etc., I felt it should have been done in the beginning when we meet him, not later.  I also wanted Brooklyn’s profession to be more center stage instead of her hanging out all the right and drinking and hooking up.  Hopefully book 2 in the series I will get what I am looking for because of the cliffhanger.  I will continue to read the series because once I am invested in a series, I have to know how it ends, plus Ms. Jamie can write a good sex scene.

Matt insisted on carrying me to the bathroom. I hugged his neck.

“Matt, you realize I can walk with a black eye, right?”

“I’ll be the judge of that.” He set me on the counter and I squeaked; the marble was frigid under my bare bottom. He dropped one of my bath bombs in the tub and watched it fizz and color the water purple.

Once, I managed to convince Matt to use a bath bomb with me. It was called a “sex bomb” and it was supposed to “put us in the mood” with “exciting scents” and “natural pheromones.” I grinned at the memory. As soon as Matt realized the bomb was coating his skin in sparkles, he leapt out of the tub ranting about “looking Twilighty” and “smelling like a girl.”

“What’re you grinning at?”

“You.” I smiled. “And this bath, which is such a transparent effort to avoid saying goodbye. Sweet… but transparent.”

Matt frowned and paced the small space of the bathroom. Ha! I was right. Matt planned to leave me in the tub and slip away.

My poor, adorable night owl—he really had issues with goodbyes.

“No,” he mumbled. “Maybe…”

“Can I induce you to stay a little longer?” I uncrossed my legs deliberately and spread them. Matt watched. He folded his arms and tilted his head.

“How does your cheek feel?”

“They’re cold.” I grinned.

“And you say I’m bad.” He slid me off the sink and turned me. I watched our reflection through the patchy steam on the mirror. Matt—God, he was so tall, and the look on his face was arresting. He wanted me. I knew that look.

I think I get it then. That decision I saw in her eyes back in the kitchen. That’s what this, what I’m about for her, too. I’m just another part of whatever rebellion she started earlier today. About doing what she wants, not what’s expected of her.

“We’re not talking about me, though,” she says. “So you went to meet your friend, and then what happened?”

She keeps her eyes down as she picks up the gauze and begins winding it snugly around the knuckles of one hand, and then the other.

“He said the wrong thing.”

“Which was?”

“Dylan.” Now it’s her that’s pushing too hard. I didn’t want to talk about things with my friends, and I won’t talk about them with her, either, no matter how gorgeous she is.

“I’ll guess. You were mad about what he did, and he wasn’t sorry.”

“This isn’t middle school, Pickle. He didn’t hurt my feelings. He said some shit he had no business saying, and it pissed me off. The end.”

“But you don’t think some of that anger stems from what you feel is a betrayal of your friendship?”

She finishes taping down the last of the gauze, but doesn’t let go of my hand.

“I think you’re analyzing me again. Making things more complicated than they are.”

“And I think you’re just a guy who doesn’t like to admit he has feelings.” She drags out the word, teasing me with some goofy smile on her face. I turn my hand over so I can clutch her wrist. I curlmy other bandaged hand around her waist and pull her closer.

“I feel plenty of things.”

The teasing stops. She swallows.

“I wasn’t talking about that kind of feeling.”

With her standing and me sitting, I’m eye level with her chest. I see the sharp rise and fall as she sucks in a breath. I want her in my lap again, straddling me this time.

“Doesn’t mean we can’t talk about that kind of feeling. Or experiment with it.”

“Is that Stella girl an ex?”

I cough, surprised. My throat twists uncomfortably, and it takes me a couple of solid breaths to get a hold on myself.

“Ah, no. Stella and I have never dated.”

“Have you—”

“Do you ever run out of questions?”

“Not ever.” She turns playful again, and I’m done doing this the careful way. If she wants a rebellion, I’ll be the one to give it to her. I want her against me, and I’m tired of waiting.

I pull her forward, insinuating my knees between hers, and her body naturally follows, settling across my thighs. Her lips part, but she catches herself before she gasps this time. I keep her steady with my hands at her waist and say, “I’ll make you a deal. A question for a kiss.”

Tentatively, she lays her palms against my shoulders. They rest there, her grip light and casual. She ponders my offer for a moment, and it drives me mad that she can do that while our hips are inches away from alignment.

“Okay then. Are you—”

I cut her off. “Not so fast, Dylan Brenner. I’ve already answered one question. We’ve got to settle up first.”

I wrap her braid around my hand like I’ve been waiting to do all night, and I use it to pull her head back just enough that I can crush my mouth against hers.

His pride has been stomped on.
Oh, and he now has an arrest record that’s caused an even bigger rift
between him and his DA mother. All for a love that wasn’t really true.

Gabe knows he could help this girl get back inside her house–but that may mean missing the next train to Boston to pick up the part he’s spent eight weeks tracking down. She can wait for him at his grandmother’s or…

A few hours, an aluminum valve cover, and some strong coffee later,
neither Gabe or Lena can feign disappointment when they race to the station and arrive just as the last train home from Boston is pulling out.

As jaded as he is, Gabe can’t deny the fact that he’s excited to spend the night exploring a city he knows nearly every corner of, with a girl who sees magic in the simplest things.

Lena has been waiting for her tiny world to crack open her entire life.
Now that it’s finally happened, she finds the only thing she can focus on is the unexpected tour guide who opens her eyes to possibilities she never imagined.

“Gabriel.” Her voice is sharp and wakes me up like a bad nightmare.

I pull myself up to sitting, touch my cheek, and wince at the pain.

“Did…did someone hit me?” I ask, working my jaw back and forth. It doesn’t feel good. “Did a cop hit me?” I blink a few times, trying to put together the memory of what happened before I took a solid right hook to the jaw.

My mom scoffs.

“The official report says that another protester hit you, though I suppose it could’ve been a police officer. I don’t want to hear another word about that though,” she says. Her arms are folded tightly over her chest and she taps one shiny, black heel with each clipped word.

“I just—”

“I told you to stay away from her,” Mom says, then holds one hand up. “All of this could have been avoided if you just would have listened to me and stayed away from her.”

I don’t answer, because I have no defense. This is the one time my mom has ever been right as far as I’m concerned.

“Never mind, we don’t need to discuss that now. What we need to do is get you out of here. I’ve already signed all of the paperwork,” she says.

Don’t have to ask me twice to leave the white cinderblock walls and the comfort of the matching cement bench.

“Thanks, Ma,” I say.

She shakes her head. “Oh, don’t you thank me, Gabriel. The man you punched—the man you assaulted at that protest—he was a police officer.”
