Title: Sequence One (The Submission Series #1-3)
Author: CD Reiss
Narrator: Jo Raylan
Genre: Erotic
Length: 8 hours and 47 minutes

Synopsis
Jonathan Drazen is a known womanizer; a gorgeous piece of
man I’m not letting into my heart.

Yeah, he’s rich, beautiful, charming as hell, and he has a wit as sharp as a double-edged razor… but he’s made it perfectly clear that this is a short-term fuck. Three nights, tops, then we part like sexually satisfied grown-ups.

I believe him when he says he can’t love me. I’m not trying to fall in love, either.

We get in. Get it on. Get the hell out. Done.

Right?

Right.

Grace Review

Story: 4.5 stars
I read this series back in Sping 2014 as a group read. To say the texts between our group were heated, would be an understatement. We were all horny reading this series.  King Jonathan rocked our world, HARD!  Man oh man. *fans self*

While the titles of the first three books, Beg-Tease-Submit, describe the dance between Jonathan and Monica, they could also describe my thoughts as a reader while reading the books.

“Please Jonathan, please make her come!”
“WHY ARE YOU SUCH A TEASE, JONATHAN?!”
“I’m do anything, anything you ask Jonathan!”

Am I alone in these thoughts?

If you say yes, then you are lying! Really now.  I call a few select books, Porn on Paper.  This series would be one of them.  And yes, with the added audio, now I have Porn on Audio.  Both the books and audio are so descriptive, you really don’t need to images to get it done.

Are you picking up what I’m laying down?

There are books out there they throw in a sex scene with some dirty talking and call it smut.  This story, about Monica’s journey with Jonathan goes beyond, slowly seducing the reader.  The authors words are raw and poetic, which is why it creates the response in a reader like myself.  I literally did nothing else but read this series for 3 days.  And had a massive book hangover when I was done.  Jonathan left a mark on me, forever.

Performance: 5 stars
After finishing this audio, I wanted to do back-flips for this narrator.  But then I’d end up in the hospital and that wouldn’t be cool. So this will have to suffice:

I am floored, FLOORED, by this audio performance.  This story was sexy on its own, and this narrator gave life to it in a darkly sexual way, which was so fitting.  The words seemed lyrical at times, even when spoken.  An example is this sequence which end up becoming a song, appropriately enough.

What is he collars me? Slaps me? Spanks me? Bites me? Fucks me in the ass? Whips me? Hurts me? Displays me? Gags me? Blindfolds me? Shares me? Humiliates me? Ties me down? Makes me bleed? Fucks me up?

And if you sit back and realize what the author did, you will appreciate her talents even more.

Then there is the song itself.  Yes, this narrator sings the words of submission.  It’s haunting, sad, sexy and beautiful, all at once.  I’m pretty sure I had the permanent O face after it.  Sexy as fuck!

Often listening to smut on audio is a bit embarrassing.  I imagine it must be awkward for the narrator to fake an orgasm on audio. But this narrator, with her voice, seduces you throughout.  Whether it’s a whisper from Jonathan, a sigh for Monica, or the actual act of submission.  All of it creates a sexual intimacy for the listener.  I was captivated with every word, and yes, turned on.
I’m not sure how the next sequence will be with a male voice, but I hear it is even hotter, if that’s even possible.Overall: 5 stars
Whether you have read the series or not, this audio is a must!  It exceeded my expectations in every way.  Until Sequence Two comes out, I’ll be waiting, with a shit load of batteries on stand-by.

“Your knees, darling. Turn around and put them to use.”

Whatever you say, King Jonathan.

Book Review: The Unveiling by Ruth Clampett

1a
Title: The Unveiling (Work of Art #2)
Author: Ruth Clampett
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 260 pages
Rating: 4.5 stars

Synopsis
Famed artist, Maxfield Caswell is missing.

Three of his major paintings have been savagely defaced and his house left in ruins. As his friends search for him, does his muse, Ava, hold the key?

Before the hope of love is lost, secrets will be told, spirits will be broken, and a price will be paid.
From the cave dwellings of New Mexico to the shores of Malibu, Max and Ava’s journey tests them to their limits. As they render passion and pain in broad strokes, will their all-consuming love rise from the debris?

Michelle's Review
Book 2 picks up rather quickly, if you have read book 1, you already know Max has gone missing. Total meltdown. Talk about an over dramatic artist, that is our Max, but you cannot help but fall in love with him regardless of his faults. Ava comes upon three defaced paintings that Max has left at his Malibu home, she needs to find Max. Who Ava turns to is an unlikely source, that source being Max’s father, with whom he has been estranged for many years. Even before find him, Ava finally receives a letter from Max and she knows she needs to see him. To help understand him as an artist.

Although their reunion is bittersweet, Ava is an impasse regarding her feelings for Max, so she continues to “date” Jonathan. I still have my issues with Jonathan, and soon enough you will too. I had a feeling about Jonathan’s “status” and my suspicions were confirmed. In other words, my sense of “bullshit” came to fruition.

Moving forward, Ava, Max and the rest of the artistic gang take a trip to Santa Fe, and it is here that Max and Ava’s relationship finally, finally open up. This book is a lot sexier than the first book. If you thought the sexual tension was going to make you combust between these two, well prepare yourself for this time around. In the first book there wasn’t much in terms of sex scenes besides the flirtations between Ava and Max and some very hot petting between Jonathan and Ava, then when you finally read the sexy times here, oh boy, so well written.

Although finally giving their relationship a good, Max is still struggling with his jealousy and now that Ava is getting noticed by TV Executives, things is still an uphill battle for these two lovers.
“I know it feels like things are hopeless, Ava, but that doesn’t mean happiness isn’t still worth fighting for…because it is.”

I loved seeing their relationship growing, for part of the book, you are rooting for them, yet you know the shit is going to hit the fan sooner or later. You see them falling in love, it was so beautiful to read. Ava still has her insecurities regarding Max, but he only has eyes for her. “I don’t want anyone else. I want you, and I’m going to prove it every day until you finally believe me and want me too.”

Ava can’t help but fall in love herself. Here is one of my favorite quotes: “Max, being in love with you is like being on a theme park ride. Thrilling and harrowing… and I had to wait in line to damn long to get on.”  Yup that’s my girl.

I really loved this book. And you guessed, it another cliffhanger. Thankfully, I do not have to wait for it, since it is waiting in my Kindle App waiting for me to turn the pages.

Title: Fighting Silence
Author: Aly Martinez
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports
Length: 297 pages
Rating: 4.5 stars

Synopsis

Sound is an abstract concept for most people. We spend our lives blocking out the static in order to focus on what we believe is important. But what if, when the clarity fades into silence, it’s the obscure background noise that you would give anything to hold on to?

I’ve always been a fighter. With parents who barely managed to stay out of jail and two little brothers who narrowly avoided foster care, I became skilled at dodging the punches life threw at me. Growing up, I didn’t have anything I could call my own, but from the moment I met Eliza Reynolds, she was always mine.  I became utterly addicted to her and the escape from reality we provided each other. Throughout the years, she had boyfriends and I had girlfriends, but there wasn’t a single night that I didn’t hear her voice.

You see, meeting the love of my life at age thirteen was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of twenty-one.

They both happened anyway.

Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.

Fighting for my career.

Fighting the impending silence.

Fighting for her.

Every night, just before falling asleep, she sighs as a final conscious breath leaves her.

I think that’s the sound I’ll miss the most.

Grace Review

Girl meets boy.
A connection is made.
A friendship builds.
Attraction is denied. . .
. . . until it is impossible to ignore.

Till first meets Eliza at the age of thirteen through the window of an abandoned apartment. That window begins to serves as a wall between Till’s fantasy world with Eliza, where everything is good, and the reality of his poor upbringing. As years pass, Eliza, who he calls Doodle due to her love to draw, tries to break down that wall and move from his fantasy to his reality. And it’s as she breaks down that wall, their love blooms.

“There is nothing in this world that was ever more mine than you.”

I don’t know what it is about these silent boys/men. Maybe it’s their vulnerability their physical impairment has on their otherwise tough exterior. This is the third book I’ve read with a male character having an impairment (either with their voice or hearing), and just like the previous two, Till Page will win your heart. Till is truly all that a bag of chips! While I had moments of frustration with him and his ridiculous fantasy vs. reality rules, his dedication to Eliza/Doodle, and his family are hard to ignore. The love he shows for them, and the priorities he establishes to care for them are shocking due to his young age and lack of a proper upbringing.

This story was interesting, and emotionally gripping, because we get to experience decline of Till’s hearing. You can feel his anxiety and fear. The scene when he wakes up and thinks something happened to his voice, broke my heart. Added to the emotion of it all was how his brothers were impacted.

Till and Eliza grew up in deplorable conditions with uncaring parents, yet with each other, someone to support them and give them strength, they fight their way to a better life.

“Because I’m ready for a new reality . . . with you.”

There are so many books about fighters out there, but this one really seemed to stand out in the sea of bad boys looking to turn their lives around. I felt more of a connection to Till than all of the previous books in that genre I’ve read. His fight is for something completely out of his control, yet he makes personal sacrifices to get it under his control.

While this is Till and Eliza’s story, the secondary characters play such a key role in their lives and help them survive all that life throws at them. I absolutely loved Till’s brothers Flint and Quarry. Under their tough exterior, they have a sweet innocence that draws you in. They owe their lives to Till, yet they end up saving him as much as he saves them. The dramatic ending in this story greatly impacts their lives, and I can only hope the next book in this series is about one of them (likely Flint since he is older).

Also, Slade, the gym owner of On the Ropes is a great father figure for Till, who’s father is a whole bunch of things, that require too many expletives for me to cover in this review. I had no idea that his story was part of Aly’s other series, Among the Echoes. I’m going to have to read that, because I absolutely loved him and his wife in this story.

This was a great read, that will stay with me for awhile. A story of kids who grow up together, and the connection that developed as kids, serves as the foundation that binds them forever. Where nothing can tear them apart. A love that is meant to be.

Excerpt

“That wasn’t yours to take away,” he exploded into the otherwise silent night. His words echoed off the surrounding buildings, each wave slicing me to the quick all over again. “That was our place. Not yours.” His voice cracked right alongside my heart.

“Yeah, well, there was a lot of stuff that wasn’t yours to take either.” I held his gaze, desperately trying to be strong, but as his eyes grew wide, I whimpered.

His long legs strode forward, stopping only inches away from me. He was crowding me, but he still leaned in closer to my face. “There is nothing in this world that was ever more mine than you,” he stated. Though it was the absolute truth, I wished with all my heart that it were a lie.

“Till,” I cried, swiping the tears from my eyes.

“Why!” he shouted, causing his muscles to tense under the force. “Goddamn it! I needed that place.”

Porch lights flashed on from the surrounding apartments, illuminating not only the dark but also my rage.

I shoved my hands into his chest. “What about what I needed? You left! I waited in that fucking apartment for weeks.”

He didn’t budge, but my bare feet slipped, sending me toward the ground. Impossibly fast, Till’s hand snaked out and caught my arm. I didn’t let his chivalrous gesture douse my fire. I had six months’ worth of words to say to the man I was irrevocably in love with.

“You took what you wanted. Then you left me.”

“Doodle,” he whispered.

I had been perilously close to the edge of insanity, and with one single word, he’d pushed me over.

I lost it completely.

Pounding my fists against his chest, I screamed at the top of my lungs, “It’s Eliza! My name is fucking Eliza! Not Doodle!” I spun to march away, but Till’s arms folded around me, lifting me off my feet to restrain me.

I was miniscule compared to him. There was no use in fighting, but I still kicked my legs, irrationally desperate to get away from him—but only because I knew I couldn’t keep him for forever.

“Stop it!” he growled into my ear. “I know your Goddamn name—probably better than I know my own.”

Book Review: The Deal by Elle Kennedy

1a
Title: The Deal (Off-Campus #1)
Author: Elle Kennedy
Genre: Sports Romance
Length: 358 pages
Rating: 5 stars

Synopsis
She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy…

Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice…even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.

…and it’s going to be oh so good.

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

Michelle's Review

At first glance, I really did not know what to expect from this book.  I always go into a book with no expectations, I rarely read anyone’s review prior to delving into a book.  I usually go by the synopsis to see if it will reel me into reading.  Boss lady Grace told me that she was hearing really good things about this book already.  Having said that, I could not wait to start reading this wonderful book.  Yes, wonderful.

You will fall in love with Hannah from the very beginning.  She is a junior in college majoring in music.  She is also very smart and very sarcastic.  Although she faced a painful past, she did not let it define her, or made her feel sorry for herself.  She has only had two relationships, and because the former boyfriend could not deal with Hannah’s “issue”, he broke up with her.  Instead, Hannah is determined to win the winter showcase at school to help pay for her tuition and surround herself with her artsy friends.

Garrett Graham, oh man, I am swooning just thinking about him right about now.  He is the Captain of his school hockey team, Mr. Popularity, but he is failing his ethics class.  In order for him to stay on the team, he needs to pick up his grades.  When he stumbles upon Hannah’s passing grade, he will do anything in his power to have her help him pass the ethics class.

Hannah knows all about Garrett and his player ways, so when Garrett all but steam rolls into her life and almost becomes a permanent fixture everywhere she goes, begging her to tutor her him, she undoubtedly gives up the fight and helps Garrett out. Here is a funny exchange between Hannah and Garret: “For the love of God, I’m not tutoring you.” “Sure you are.” I shrug. “I just need to figure out what you want in return.” “I want to not tutor you. That’s what I want.” Like I said, she ends up tutoring Garett.

These two become attached to the hip until Garret notices that Hannah has the hots for someone on the football team.  He antes up their friendship with a Deal.  If Hannah helps him pass ethics, he will make sure that the star wide receiver will pay attention to Hannah because hello, guys always want what they can’t have, right?

Although this friends with benefits situation is all well and good, Garret is still a guy. His internal monologue is hysterical, case in point: “Yes, Hannah and I are friends. In fact, she’s the only female friend I’ve ever had. And yes, I want to keep being Hannah’s friend. But…I also want to sleep with her.”

Eventually, these two start getting really intense feelings for each other.  They help each other out emotionally as well as physically.  Oh did I mention Garrett’s father is a real douche bag? Oh he is big time. Not a very nice man at all and he will test Garrett and Hannah’s relationship.  Hannah does see the good in Garrett  “You’re a good person.”… “You’re honest and kind and compassionate.” … I mean, don’t get me wrong, you’re a total dick sometimes, but it’s tolerable kind of dickishness.” God that was one of my favorite lines.

I loved how Ms. Kennedy kept me captivated throughout.  I found myself not wanting to put the book down especially when I had things to do around the house.  Although you can put this in the NA category of romance, the sex scenes were hot and very well written.

There is an HEA, so do not fret.  My understanding is that Ms. Kennedy is writing a series with the secondary characters from the book, so you can read this as a standalone, but I would totally suggest reading the others to come, I know I will.  I cannot wait for The Mistake which comes out in the Spring!

Blog Tour (Book Review, Excerpt & Giveaway): Confessions of a Reformed Tom Cat by Daisy Prescott

1b
Title: Confessions of a Reformed Tom Cat
Author: Daisy Prescott
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: pages
Rating: 4.5 stars

Synopsis

I, Thomas Clifford Donnely, am a manwhore.

I’ve been told I’m irresistible to women. Like catnip for a different type of pussy-cat. I guess you could call me a Tom Cat.This is the story about how I lost my wingman, broke all my own rules, and found myself falling in love.

Tom Donnelly isn’t the marrying kind, or the dating kind. Even after losing his #1 wingman to love, he doesn’t see the point in relationships. When his sister’s best friend returns to Whidbey Island and propositions Donnelly for a one-night stand, he breaks one of his biggest rules—no fooling around with his sisters’ friends. It’s just sex, nothing more. That’s what Tom does and does well.

What happens when “just sex” isn’t enough?

Hailey King is more than a match for Tom’s flirtations. She’s known him most of her life and has heard the rumors about his “skills” for years. When her perfectly planned future falls apart, will the last man she should ever fall for turn out to be more than a one-night stand?

Grace Review

Confession: I requested this ARC having no idea of what it was about.

I loved the title and have loved all of Daisy’s previous books, so it was a no-brainer. So when did read the synopsis, I was so excited to be going back to Whidbey Island. If you read Ready to Fall, than you may remember Tom, the lovably goofy playa of the island, who attempted to pick up Diane with his geoduck joke.

Side note: This can be considered a standalone. While it does reference moments from Ready to Fall and John and Diane are mentioned often in this book, you won’t be lost if you haven’t read that book.

So how does Tom (Cat), a lover of all things pussy, change his stripes? Very slowly. This might be the most accurate portrayal of how a manwhore changes from a different girl every night to a one-woman type of guy. The change for Tom doesn’t happen over night. This is not an insta-love type of book, and I think that is a good thing.

Confession: I loved Tom’s confessions.

Confession time: It takes a lot for me not to want to sleep with a woman.  Size didn’t matter if she had confidence.

This guy owns his manwhore status. While he occasionally takes offense to some of his family’s comments, he seems to wear his ladies man status with a badge of honor. And while he never confessed to a specific number, it’s clear it’s not the catch and release game he enjoys, he just loves women, and enjoys making them purr with delight. A true pussy connoisseur!

If I crashed on my way to have sex, I’d never live it down.  The power of pussy – no other reason could get me to leave my house on a day like today.

While growing up with Hailey, who he fondly calls Idaho, there was no attraction on his end to his sister’s BFF. But years later, the gangly girl is now a man’s dream with legs for days. As any Tom Cat would do, of course he crosses the line with her, but just like all of his other conquests, there are no expectations about a “next time.” Although you come to expect such behavior from Tom, I was surprised how Hailey handled things. She didn’t get clingy or emotional. For the most part. Overall, their relationship seemed very organic, it just grew over time. And it felt very real.

One thing I love about Daisy’s work is I feel like I’m being whisked away to Whidbey Island (or Africa, Selah’s book). She brings you to a place you might not be familiar with, and yet you feel at home while you are there. The people seem familiar, the moments are easy to relate to, and you feel like unpacking your bags and staying awhile. I also love how she captures the small town feel in this series, where everyone knows everyone and all of their business. The scene at the supermarket was priceless!

Then again, no one expects a package of hamburger meat to the head.

Confession: I don’t want this series to end!

I’m not sure if Daisy has plans to expand this series, but I have to come to love this group of thirty-somethings. Maybe its that this age group is so rarely represented in the books I read, but I love the music and movie references (Heathers was mentioned a couple times in this book – “I love my dead gay son”) from my generation. It makes it so easy to connect to the characters and enjoy how their stories unfold. If you are looking that’s light and fun, then look no further. Tom will warm you up, Island style!

Prologue

When she walked toward me, I was ninety-percent certain she wanted to slap me. I spread my stance and tensed for the impact. Sadly, she wouldn’t be the first woman to smack me or attempt it. Good thing I was pretty fast at dodging and weaving.
I held her gaze as she got closer. Part of me wanted to close my eyes and turn the other cheek … literally. Or back down the hall and hide in the men’s room. Ah, the men’s bathroom. A place no woman dared to go unless absolutely necessary. Urinals freaked them out.
I took a big step backward and then another until the darkness of the hall to the back room enveloped me. I wasn’t running. Far from it. I moved slowly and kept my eyes on my assailant stalking toward me.
I probably should have asked myself why she wanted to slap me. Had I stopped to think, I might have realized unlike most women with the same expression on their face, I hadn’t actually given her a reason to be mad at me. At least none I knew about.
Her eyes narrowed and she cut the distance between us in half with two long strides. To my left was the door to the bathroom and potential salvation. Further behind me stood the backdoor and freedom. While I debated hiding or fleeing, she made the decision for me by grabbing the front of my shirt.
“Hey, what’s up?” Always act innocent. In this case, I didn’t have to act.
“I’ve been looking all over for you tonight.”
I raised an eyebrow. “You have?”
She stared at my mouth and pressed her lips together. “I have. Why is a good man hard to find when you need him?”
Her words rearranged themselves in my head after she’d spoken them. “Don’t you mean a hard man is good to find when you need him?”
She snorted out a laugh. “Exactly. You read my mind.” Her hand not clutching my shirt touched the bared skin above my belt.
“Hey, whoa, where you going with that hand?” I jerked my hips back to escape her wandering fingers.
“I need a good man. And since I don’t know any good men, I decided I needed a hard man tonight.”
“Okay.” I grabbed her hands in mine to protect myself from her assault. “Can I ask you one thing?”
“Sssure.”
The subtle slur answered my question, but I asked it anyway. “Have you been drinking?”
“Tommm, don’t be mean. You sleep with everyone on the island. I need you to sleep with me. Now.” The slight rasp to her voice had strengthened into a sultry purr.
Definitely not sober. “What happened to your own man? Have sex with him.”
She pressed a finger to my lips. “No talking, more sex.”
“More implies there’s some sex to begin with.” I couldn’t figure out why I bothered to argue. Sex without strings was my thing.
But could I have stringless sex with her? I had rules.
While I was lost in some sort of moral debate, she kissed me.
Worse, my body responded, and I liked it. A lot.
She was an amazing kisser—even buzzed and with grabby hands, her lips and tongue teased mine with a balance of aggression and skill.

With a smile, I turned around, then froze when my sight registered the obscured figure leaning against the wall. A strangled gasp caught in my throat, and my heart took off at a sprint, blood pounding hard in my ears.

Pushing from the wall, he stepped from the shadows, his hands again stuffed deep in his pockets.

My heart rate only increased, the energy radiating from him almost as strong as the disappointment he’d left me with when he’d gone.

I pressed my hand to my chest to try to still the panic thundering against my ribs. “You scared me.”

“I’m sorry.” The words were soft. “That’s the last thing I want to do.”

But he did. I was scared of what he was capable of doing to me, the way I knew he held the power to trounce all over this hammering heart, to hold it in his hand and crush it into a million unrecognizable pieces.

“What are you doing here?” I asked on a shaky breath.

He looked to the sky and exhaled heavily, before he leveled his gaze back on me. “The same thing I’m doing every night, Shea. Thinking about you and wondering why the hell I can’t stop.”

My stomach flipped, and I gulped for air.

“What do you want from me?”

He laughed, lifted his elbows out to his sides in a helpless gesture without pulling his hands free.

“Dinner?”

Nonsensical laughter shot from me. “At three in the morning?”

“Breakfast?” he amended, a coy smile pulling at his full, crooked lips.

Tingles spread across my skin, and I ran my hands up my bare arms. “I already told you I don’t have time for distractions.”

“Come on, Shea. It’s just food. Go out with me. Just tonight.”

Somehow I knew it was a lie, even though he wanted to believe it was true.

Nervously, I glanced to the back door all the while being inexplicably drawn to this man I didn’t even know. I knew I should make a break for it, run for the safety of my little world and give him no opportunity to rip it apart.

“I am hungry,” I found myself saying. After a long night of work, it was true. But it had nothing to do with the reason I was giving in.

Because I just wanted to… I shook my head.

That was it. I just wanted. I wanted to be in his space. I wanted to understand why he had this pull on me. I wanted him.

Even though I’d never allow myself to have him.

Title: The Inspiration (Work of Art #1)
Author: Ruth Clampett
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 253 pages
Rating: 4.5 stars

Synopsis

In a life driven by passion, famed artist Maxfield Caswell lives in a world of brilliant color and drama, pushing his art and affairs to his emotional edge. He’s stunning, charismatic and celebrated in the art world, but are the trappings of fame also destroying him?

For years intelligent and bright-eyed Ava Jacobs has worked diligently toward a career in the art world. Ava is swept off her feet when she meets the passionate artist. She soon realizes, however, that he’s on a destructive path—one she doesn’t intend to join him on.

In the decadent world of patrons, art groupies, and predators, feisty and beautiful Ava knocks Max off his pedestal. A stunned Max sees something special in Ava and offers her an opportunity she can’t refuse. As their lives and passions collide, will he realize that she alone has the power to heal him? Can their hearts come together to create their own work of art?

Michelle's Review

I was asked a few weeks ago by Neda Amini (love her), if I ever read Gabriel’s Inferno by Sylvain Reynard. I told her that I did and that I loved it. She asked me if I would consider reading something similar, and I absolutely said yes. I have never read Ms. Clampett’s work and I am so glad that I took the journey.

We meet Ava Jacobs, an aspiring writing who has been diligently working in the art world surrounded by her surrogate family. Never in a million years would she be defending renowned artist Maxfield Caswell’s work.

Max is immediately taken with Ava and her spunk. You will fall in love with Ava. She is forthright, smart and beautiful. She does not hold anything back. She, too, is taken with Max, but she notices his mood swings. Oh the tortured artist. Ava and Max do develop a friendship, but the sexual tension between these two was on fire!A
Enter Jonathan. Older, good looking man, who has met Ava and he too is VERY taken with her. He can also make her dreams come true. He is a book editor and he wants her to write a table book on Max’s work. Well of course Ava is going to jump at this chance, right!

I kept getting a hot and cold situation with Max. I wasn’t sure what his true feelings were for Ava. He played up the typical dramatic artist if you will a lot. I loved how Ava would not taking any of his crap. Let’s just say the ensuing emails between these two were NO BUENO lol. Here is a quote from Max to Ava:

“Ava, you don’t know how dark things are in my mind. What I am inside…what I can be like.” When you read the book, you will totally get this reference. At times, I just wanted to shake Max.

Did I mention that Mr. Jonathan also has the hots for Ms. Ava? Yup. I was curious how this was all going to work out. Ava is loving all the attention from Jonathon, yet she cannot seem to stop thinking about Max. Something about Jonathan really bugs me though, I can’t put my hand on it. Hopefully book 2, I will probably get my answers.

Oh yeah, that cliffhanger, what a dozy. Before you cut out on this review, you will be happy to know that book 2 is already out and book 3 will be out in March, so don’t get your panties in a bunch.

Let me just also tell you that there is a lot of sexual chemistry going on in this book, not a lot of sexy times. We have all become spoiled with reading a lot of erotica, me included. Yet sometimes, I love reading outside the erotica genre. I will say this is more a contemporary romance type of book. You really should read it. The writing is superb. It did not lag, the storyline at times slowed, but it made the story line so much better. This book evoked so many emotions for me. I did not want to put down even when my eyes were getting tired. As soon as I finished book 1, I started on book 2. You will also adored all the secondary characters in the book, so many people very protective of Ava, you will fall in love with them as well.

Rating: 3.5 stars

Synopsis

[ob-li-gey-shuh n]

An obligation is a course of action that someone is required to take, whether legal or moral.

At six years old, Myla was sent to a family her father and mother had chosen for her when they knew their time on earth was almost up. What they were unaware of was what they thought would be her safe haven would become her living hell.

Kai has been watching Myla from afar since he took over the family business from his father and inherited the responsibility of keeping her safe. When word gets back to Kai that Myla is not only in danger, but that his assets are being compromised, he immediately jumps into action and does the only thing that can be done at the time by marrying her.

Neither Myla nor Kai would have thought that something that started off as a farce would become the most important thing either of them could’ve ever done.

YaYa's Review

You can’t love them all and not that I didn’t love the story but it’s the first one by this author I’m not too fond of. I feel like she didn’t give me her usual steamy sex. Something was lacking. It also took too long for things to actually start happening in the story for me.

Her hero Kai is an Alpha, yes they always are, but this man how many times did he need to growl. I did like his dominating obsessive side. He would go a little overboard at times but hey that’s what I like about her Alphas. They always take what they want. Boom!

The heroine, Myla. I will be nice. The book starts off when she’s a little girl and is hiding because her parents were arguing and she was scared. Kai is what 10(?!) years old at the time and is the one to comfort her (priceless). Then she gets taken away to live with a new family and then all of a sudden she’s married to Kai. Uhm, did I miss something? She was taken away. How did you find her Kai? When did you find her? Where was she? How was her life with these people? It’s not until later on we learn what actually happens. What I’m trying to say is the scenes jumped and nothing filled in the gaps. I needed more information. She was also on the boring side. When she wasn’t baking cakes, she was crying or sleeping. Yes life is hard and people are trying to kill you. It’s a book, Jesus live a little.

Quite pleased to have gotten a little from Justin and Sven. Looking forward to reading Sven’s story after that small introduction. Sounds like it’s going to be a good one.

Overall thoughts:
If you’re an ARR fan, read it. Maybe I felt a little disconnected with this story but it still will not discourage me from reading the rest of the series or her upcoming books. She’s a great writer and we all need a touch of her greatness. Happy Readings!!

Favorite Quotes:

“I have always needed to protect you.”

“Remember you always have a safe place to fall.”

“The gods had written you into my destiny a long time ago, makamae.”

“The gods have been smiling on me since I was ten years old and found a beautiful little girl crying in her tree house.”

Excerpt

“Everyone is looking for you.”

I turn my head, pulling my hair out of my face as I watch a boy I’ve never seen before climb up the stairs and into my tree house.

“Who are you?” I ask him as he sits across from me.

“Kai,” he smiles, looking around. He looks a lot different than the other kids I know. His hair is long, and his skin is a lot darker than mine. “Why are you hiding?”

I shrug and look away from him. Daddy was yelling earlier; he was so mad that he was turning red. Then Mommy started crying, and Daddy started yelling louder. I heard Mommy telling Daddy that he had to send me away. I don’t want to go away. I try to be good, but sometimes, I forget to listen.

“Why are you crying?”

I look up at him and wipe my face. “I’m scared,” I whisper, wiping my nose.

“Come on. I’ll protect you,” he says, holding his hand out to me.

Then my mommy calls my name again. I look at his hand, move Mr. Bear under my arm, and put my hand in his.

“Myla!” Mommy yells, running towards me.

I can tell she has been crying again.

“Where did you go?” Her hands grab my shoulders and she shakes me hard.

“It’s my fault. I asked her to show me the tree house,” Kai tells her.

She stops shaking me then looks at him. “You shouldn’t have done that. You knew we were looking for her,” she says angrily her head.

“I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking,” Kai says softly, putting his hands in his pockets and looking at the ground.

I look back at Mommy, and she shakes her head before grabbing my hand and pulling me with her. When I look over my shoulder at Kai, he smiles, making me smile back.

Genres: ContemporaryRomance

Synopsis

Bad girls have all the fun…

Trying to fit in with expectations has left Diane Milstrom lonely and dateless for yet another New Year’s Eve. After being forced to witness her ex proposing to the woman he dumped her for, she has one too many drinks and makes an uncharacteristically impulsive decision: she’s not going to be good anymore. It’s gotten her nothing but heartache, and besides, everyone knows bad girls have all the fun.

Sam Everly enjoys the lifestyle his family’s wealth provides, but he hates the trappings of society that come with it. If he has to attend one more family function full of bored socialites, he just might lose it. Diane Milstrom, his eldest brother’s ex-girlfriend, is the worst of the lot…or so he always thought. But when he overhears her making a Bad Girl To-Do list, he starts to wonder if maybe there’s more to her than meets the eye. Curiosity gets the better of him, and he volunteers to help her with some of the more…ahem, explicit items on her list.

When Sam points out that being naughty with her ex’s brother is something only a bad girl would do, Diane can’t help but see his point. Besides, she could do worse than a little between-the-sheets action with a sexy guy who makes her heart beat in ways his brother never could. It’s only supposed to be a fling, a way to help her stretch her bad girl wings. But the more items they cross off her list, the higher the stakes become. Because if they aren’t careful, she just might fall in love…and that’s one thing a bad girl should never do.

Author’s Note: If you’re into sexy billionaires with a touch of Alpha, who love to talk dirty in the bedroom (and out of it), then this contemporary erotic romance series might be for you!

Michelle's Review

So going into this book, I didn’t realize it was part of a series. But do fret my dear reader, you can read this book and the other two as standalones. In other words, no cliffhangers lol.

Diane Milstrom is without a date on New Year’s Eve and to make matters worse for this lady, she sees her ex-boyfriend proposing to the woman that he has left her for. Not that Diane was dating her ex for a long time, hell, she even admits that their relationship was dull. She felt no chemistry. But it still kind of hurts to see her ex all happy and engaged.

While at the party, she devises a plan a plan to put her good girl image into a Bad Girls Do list instead. While typing up these plans on her phone, her ex-boyfriend’s brother, Sam Everly happens to overhear these naughty plan. Typical man, he gets instant wood. He always seen Diane and uptight, never in a million years, would he imagine overhearing Diane all the naughty sexual things she would like to partake in doing.

Sam is the youngest Everly and a total player. He doesn’t want any strings attached, so he offers Diane the ultimate sexual experience on her to-do list. Let’s just saying these two have some awesome chemistry and the sex was pretty hot. Oh man and when get would get all Alpha on her, wow. I thought I told you to stay put.” …. “What do you think I should do about your failure to follow orders.” Uhm hello Mr. Dominant!

My heart went out towards Diane, she’s not annoy per say, she has some upbringing issues, her mother being mostly out of the picture, and her father rather overbearing. She is very smart and funny as hell. Sam comes off as a player, but you will see his change when he cannot seem to get enough from being around Diane.

If you’re into Adult Fiction Romance, then this is the book for you. It was a pretty quick read and I thoroughly end the book throughout.

Excerpt

“Hi.” I stood up off the bed as he started climbing through the window.

His eyes went wide when he saw me, causing him to momentarily lose his balance on the windowsill and go crashing to the floor. “God. Damn,” he cursed as he rose to his feet while taking in my new wardrobe. “You… I…um…” His hand went to his lip.

He was rooted in place only a few steps away, but his eyes traveled over every inch of my body and back again.

Till was speechless. I had never felt so empowered in my life.

“Are you okay?” I feigned concern as I slowly approached.

“Not even close,” he told my breasts, making me giggle.

After sliding a hand under the edge of his T-shirt, I raked a fingernail over each of his abs before dipping it into the waistband of his jeans.

“I’m sore today,” I announced, closing the distance between us. My breasts were pressed against him, but he still hadn’t even attempted to touch me yet. I had plans to remedy that. I smirked then stood up on my tiptoes, kissing the base of his neck. “Make me sore for tomorrow too.” At the last second, I darted my tongue out to the hollow dip at the base of his neck. It was meant to tease him, but as the taste of his skin hit my tongue, I was flooded with memories of taking more of him in my mouth. The moan escaped before I’d even felt it coming.

A loud rumble shook his chest, but that was the only warning I received. Suddenly, I was off my feet and sailing through the air. Just as I landed on the bed, Till crashed on top of me. His mouth roughly landed on mine.

“Tell me we can’t do this again,” he demanded as his hands found my breasts.

“We’re definitely doing this again.” I arched into him.

“It’s gonna get so messy, Eliza. Please.” He groaned as I reached into the front of his jeans.

“I’m okay with messy,” I breathed, guiding his hand from my breast and into my panties.

“Fuuuuuck” he cursed when he discovered just how thorough I’d been with the razor earlier. His finger pressed inside me as his body traveled down the bed and settled between my legs, stripping my panties off during his descent.

He added another finger in a less than gentle but overwhelmingly intoxicating, rhythm.

“Tell me to stop, Eliza. We can’t do this again.” He grazed his teeth on the inside of my thigh.

“We’re already doing it.”

“Tell me to stop.”

“No.”

“It’s going to ruin us.”

“If you don’t stop talking, you’re going to ruin this.”

“I’m serious.” He kissed the inside of my other thigh, his fingers never faltering in their steady pace.

“So am I. Stop trying to talk yourself out of this while your fingers are buried inside me.” I threaded a hand into his hair and gave it a gentle tug.

“Goddammit. Tell me to stop!” he demanded one last time, but his fingers sped before twisting in the most delicious way.

I decided to give him what he wanted, but only because I knew he wouldn’t follow through.

“Stop.” I rolled my hips forcing him even deeper.

“Well, it’s too fucking late now.”

I would have laughed, but his mouth sealed over my clit and stole my breath, words, thoughts, and orgasm. My body shook as he pushed me higher even while I was falling. It shouldn’t have worked like that, but whatever voodoo magic Till Page was working with that night was all right with me. He didn’t stop swirling his tongue until I used his hair to pry his mouth away.

“Too much!” I cried.

He looked up with a wickedly proud grin. His hand disappeared, and seconds later, his cock replaced it.
