“He owns you. Whatever he tells you to do you do”.

One year. No future. A past that won’t go away.

Lennox “Nox” Demetri broke his own rule by making a deal. It may not have been directly with the devil, but that doesn’t mean Satan himself isn’t watching. Was it fate that brought Charli into his life and his bed? What will happen when rules are broken and secrets are revealed?

“New rules…my rules.”

Alex “Charli” Collins found pleasure with Nox like she’d never known. That was before she knew his last name. Now that Infidelity is involved and the rules have changed, what will result when real life and fantasy collide?

Is it really cheating if you’re doing it to yourself?

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a sexy, new dominant hero who knows what he wants and a strong-willed heroine who has plans of her own. With classic Aleatha Romig twists, turns, deceptions, and devotions, the depth of this new, epic dark romance reaches new levels and will have readers swooning one minute and screaming the next.

Have you been Aleatha’d?

CUNNING is a full-length novel, 360 pages, and the second of five books in the INFIDELITY series.

Grace Review

WARNING:  Do not read this review if you do not want spoilers for book one.

With the ending of book one, we now know the meaning of the series title, so we can let go of that breath we were holding.  Or can we?  This book reveals a lot of new details that complicate things. In addition, Nox is not the guy Alex “Charli” remembers from Del Mar.

“. . . what we did, that wasn’t me, not he me who succeeds in this filthy world.  That was the me who believed he’d met a princess who enjoyed being treated like a slut.”

This book is told in 3 POVs, Alex and Nox in the present, and Alex’s mom, Adeline, told mostly in the past.  It’s with Adelaine’s POV that we learn the agreement that was made years ago that greatly impacts Alex’s future.  But before I get to that, let me backtrack . . .

If you expected some beautifully touching reunion between Alex and Nox, think again.  Nox is beyond pissed that Alex went to Infidelity in the first place, even though he has a connection to the business.  He is very cold and hot with her.  On the cold side, he’s rude and demeaning to her.  Truth be told, he’s a huge dickhead a lot of the time.  But it is intentional.  A game.  On the hot side, it’s hard for him deny that he is extremely attracted to her.  Her reaction to his punishments only fuel him further.

For reasons I couldn’t comprehend, in Nox’s presence my will to argue waned as my desire to please grew.

This book was very different for me, because these two act very differently away from each other than together.  When away from each other, they have time to stew over words (Nox’s harsh words to Alex) and actions (Alex’s foolish reactions).  They seem to work themselves into a fury, creating a new game each time.  But their connection and reactions to each other, change and that anger, fueling the fire in the form of passion.  Once that passion is satisfied, they can be very sweet and thoughtful to one another.  Until the next day.

Yes, there was a lot of fighting, usually led by Nox who goes off of the mere mention of a name.  It was a bit tiring and I could understand Alex’s frustration.  With Nox taking control, he wants all the answers, and wants to make all the decisions.  And when Alex pushes him to give her a little information back, it never seems to end well.

“As I’ve mentioned, my tastes are unique, and to me, tears of pain taste as sweet as tears of joy.  You signed the agreement, and it wasn’t to star as Cinderalla.  I’m about as far from Prince Carming as you’re going to find.”

Adding to the complexity of this story is Nox’s shady business dealings.  Although Bryce’s intentions and meddling run deeper than revealed, I thought he is right to warn Alex about Nox.  I’m not entirely clear on all of his business ventures, but the open threats towards Alex make me think it’s a lot worse than trying to legalize marijuana.

While Nox keeps his secrets, we learn a lot about Alex’s family secrets in Adelaine’s POV.  We learn why everyone is so adamant that she marry Bryce, although there was an interesting twist at the end that I hope we learn more about in book two.  We also learn that both families have connected in the past.  Where that may lead is anyone’s guess.

What we are left with is what we don’t learn.  What Nox won’t say.  And it could be a game changer.  But we’ll have to wait until May for the answers . . .
