Release Date: Feb. 7th 2015

I was happy in my small town. In my life as a single thirty-two year old woman. I had a good job, wonderful friends, my independence.
I also hadn’t got laid in three years. Hadn’t been on a date in two. Had stopped counting calories and putting on makeup… a while ago.
Then Brett Jacobs waltzed in. Caressed my thigh, dug rough fingers into my hair, lowered his soft mouth to my skin, took sexual control of my mind and stirred it all around with what he packed in his pants. He dumped my quiet life upside down and crawled into a place in my heart I thought was dead.
The issue is his secret.
The issue is her.
The issue is that I don’t even know she exists, and he thinks she’s dead.
The issue is that everything is about to hit the fan and I can’t hold on to him tight enough.

MG Review

Tight – the grip in which we held our kindle when reading this story or the way our bodies felt when finishing it.

This is one of those book reviews, where the less we say, the better. Spoilers could ruin the whole experience for you, so we’ll do our best to steer clear of them.

What we can tell you is that this book kept us guessing from beginning to end. If you read the synopsis, then you may think you have it all figured out. Those presumptions will probably drive you mad. Because if you were like me, you’ll see the % increase and struggle to understand how things will get resolved like you may want them to. But have no fear, this book is a standalone and does come with a HEA.

I will admit, that I didn’t read the synopsis at first, I love everything that I have read from Alessandra before, so I figured, she’s not going to disappoint me, let me go into this book with an open mind.

Our reviewer Yaya shared a theory with me early on, and initially I thought she might be on to something. However, as I continued reading, I just couldn’t see how her theory could be correct. BIG MISTAKE! Never doubt the power of Yaya, lol. She is rarely ever wrong.

There are hints about what is going on throughout the book. I won’t mention what they are, but when I think back on the story, it makes sense. The author did a great job of building the suspense, and leading you down a path where not everything isn’t as it seems. With alternating POVs, the author drives the angst. One POV shows a beautiful and sexy love story. One POV shows an extreme horror a captured woman would experience. It is important to note that while this book is dark, it is not a dark romance.

I will 100% agree with Grace that this book will leave you guessing at every turn.  I thought I had it all figured out at around 60%, boy was I EVER WRONG!  I will admit that I reserved judgment on Yaya’s theory.  Then after we all read the book, we had our usual mini discussions after a buddy read.  Both Grace and Yaya helped me understand certain things that, for me, wasn’t obvious.  That is why I love a buddy read.

I will also admit, that I initially had the book at 4 Stars somewhere in the middle, but when I was getting closer to getting my answers, Alessandra just blew my mind away.  All I kept saying to myself “holy shit, oh no she didn’t just go there with the story”.

While I loved this book, there were parts that bothered me, no doubt. Brett hides behind a wall of lies. Some of those lies cover up very honorable actions, not something that he felt could be freely discussed. And some of those lies have to horrible consequences. I had to think back, what could have been prevented if he shared his story? Why didn’t he share his story?! *shakes kindle*

Towards the last 40% of the book, I literally could not read fast enough. I rarely get so absorbed in a book where everything is ignored around me, but this book captured my full attention. And as the author reveals what I was trying to understand throughout, I had that “ahhh” moment and it all made sense.

I was having a real struggle with Brett at times and his secrets, and as yummy and swoon worthy as he was, I was holding my heart just in case.  The HEA factor is there, like Grace mentioned.

Overall, I really loved this book.  Us shorties may not agree on certain aspects of the book, but we all agree that we like Alessandra Torre.

This is a book where you’ll immediately want to talk to a friend. This is a fairly quick read, and given that I found it hard to put down, can easily be read in a day, it’s also a story that sticks with you, as you reflect on the clever way in which the story was laid out. This author always manages to surprise and entertain me, which is why she’ll continue to be one of my automatic drop-everything authors.
