Audio Review: Echoes of Scotland Street by Samantha Young

Title: Echoes of Scotland Street (On Dublin Street #5)
Author: Samantha Young
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 9 hours and 42 minutes

Shannon MacLeod has always gone for the wrong type of man. After she drifted from one toxic relationship to the next, her last boyfriend gave her a wakeup call in the worst possible way. With her world shattered, she’s sworn off men—especially those of the bad-boy variety.

Cole Walker is exactly the sort that Shannon wants to avoid—gorgeous, tattooed, charming, and cocky. But his rough exterior hides a good man who’s ready to find “the one.” He’s determined to pull Shannon from her self-imposed solitude and win her heart.

As Shannon opens up in the face of Cole’s steady devotion, the passion between them ignites to blazing levels. But when Shannon’s past comes back to haunt her, her fears may destroy the trust Cole has built between them—and tear them apart for good.

Grace Review
Story: 4 stars
Since the last book, when I basically begged for Cole’s story, I have been eager to hear more about this quiet and sweet tattooed man.  And he did not disappoint.  From the moment we meet him as a teenager, to when the story fast forwards to his adult years, he wins you over with his charm, and thoughtfulness.

But Shannon comes into his world and sets it on its axis.  I’ll be honest, it took me a looooooong time to warm up to her.  She has had some craptastic experiences with the men in her past, and immediate throws judgement on Cole.  It’s incredible rude and I wanted to hit her.

Other than being a bitch to Cole initially, Shannon has sass in spades, as noted in her confrontation with Cole’s ex, Jessica.  She truly shows her ginger roots then (us redheads are known for our tempers).  Thankfully, Cole appreciates her actions and the two slowly begin to form a friendship.  But all is not forgotten and it takes awhile before Cole forgives her for her comments.

When the two slowly get closer, Shannon refuses to fully trust Cole, and that annoyed me even more.  It really sucked in my opinion that he had to make up for the men before him.  And I wouldn’t have judged him if he walked away.

If you’ve learned anything from this series, it is that the men are amazing and the women are idiots.  Once again, when faced with the possibility of having screwed up something good, Shannon finally wakes up and rights her wrongs.

Performance: 5 stars
Whether you are already a fan of this series and want to hear the story again on audio, or if you haven’t read or listened to the books before, I HIGHLY recommend listening to this on audio.  Whenever someone asks me for an audio recommendation, this is one of the first series’ that comes to mind.  Why?  SCOTTISH ACCENTS!!!  And this narrator, Elle Newlands, knocks this audio out of the park.  I would give her 5 stars on chapter 13 alone.  Hint: This narrator knows how to fake an orgasm.  Holy hell!  I almost crashed my car while listening to some of the scenes.  She truly knows how to put some enthusiasm into a sex scene.

Other than making me blush, this narrator deftly handles all the character voices and their range of emotions.  Thoroughly enjoyable audio from beginning to end.

Overall: 4.5 stars
Although Shannon annoyed me for a good part of the story, Cole can easily be considered one of my favorite males from the series.   His love and support for Shannon is swoon-worthy.  As for Shannon, she shows growth over the book, moving from a timid insecure woman, to one that is willing to fight for what she wants and stand by her man, no matter the consequences.

If you are a fan of the series, you will be happy to know that all of the previous characters play a role in this book, particularly Hannah.  While I really didn’t care for her in the last book (see my note about the female characters in this series), she is a much stronger character in this book, providing support to both Cole and Shannon when needed.

I’m really excited to hear that Shannon’s brother, Logan, is getting his own story.  Just please put him with a strong female, dear author.  Pleeeeeaasse!
